Looking to scope a Ruger 77/22

This rifle will be a trainer for the wife and son prior to introducing them to centerfire rifles. Also will be a practice gun for me to burn cheaper 22s than shooting my centerfires, I also will use it as a walking squirrel gun this fall.

I'd like to outfit it with a good, but not super pricey scope, never had a scope on a rimfire, other than possibly having a scope with paralex set at something less than 100yds, is there anything specific I should look for in a 'rimfire' scope or could I just put a regular rifle scope on it.

I don't want any ballistic reticle, a standard duplex is fine and I don't need turrets or super lowlight performance. Just clear optics with repeated adjustments that will hold zero.

Budget is 200 or less, buying used is fine if a good brand like Leupold that I can trust. Thinking 2-7, 3-9, or a fixed power.

What can you suggest?

The Weaver classic rimfire scopes are all very good and are well within your budget.

I've been way beyond pleased with Nikon Prostaff & Vortex Crossfire rimfire scopes, both in 4x32 persuasion.

The ProStaffs used to list for $109, but they went down to < $70 when the line got upgraded. The Crossfires also retailed around $110, but I'll bet you could find one for less.

Either one is a quantum leap from the bubble pack [bodily waste], for not a whole lot more dough.

Another vote for the Weaver Classic Rimfire scope. I have one in fixed 4x and it has been golden. I also have a couple of Weaver Classic K-6 6x fixed power scopes on rimfires and they do just fine as well.

You can get a Leupold Fixed 4x rimfire for $200.00 new or less if you look.
IF you like the variable then you can find the 2-7 Leupold rimfire for close to the same .
OR buy a used Leupold 4x FX a or M-8 and reset the parralax yourself if you need to.though you probably wont need to at long as you have a decent cheekeweld and consistent head placement.

I will back up the Weaver recommendations, they are top notch rimfire scopes.

I have a Vortex Crossfire 2-7x on a CZ 452 22 LR. It has spent two years riding around on the four wheeler shooting ground squirrels while irrigating. It has held up pretty well to the dust dirt and vibration.

i bought a redfield revelution 3x9 directly from leupold and had them set the parralex at 50 yds. i believe they make a 2x7
also.

How big of an issue is the parralex being set at 50yds? for an extra $75 I can get the nikon prostaff 3-9 that is currently mounted on it. I've used Prostaffs before and I know optically it will do what I want and then some, just worry about the parralex on it.

Look for the pro staff slug hunter model. Parallax is set for 75 yards as I recall.

For your purpose I would go with a Tasco Wordl Class 3-12X for under a $100.

You can get a prostaff EFR for $189 which has adjustable objective to be parallex free and focused from 10 yards to infinity.

I've got a Vortex Diamondback 2-7xRF on my CZ. Nice scope with a very wide FOV.

Found a good deal here in the classifieds on a Weaver Rimfire 2-7. Thanks for the advice guys.

I did the same thing with the 2-7x33 Redfield. I think Leupold charged me $15 to adjust the parallax. It's a nice set-up for a rimfire.

I also have the 4 power fixed Weaver rimfire on another 22. If you are on a tight budget, the Weaver rimfire is hard to beat.

Assuming you got a good deal on the 2x7 in the classifieds you have a win. I hope you like it.

I've got Weaver Classic "K" scopes on both of my .22s. A K-4 on one and a K-2.5 on the other.

I know you already bought a scope Matt .
Just saying here --a guy on rimfire central website tested scopes set at 100yd parallax.
He used a very accurate target rimfire -and looking through the scopes at the most extreme angle it amounted to 1/2" at 100yds as best as he could tell.
Other members stated they tried it and had the same results.
Just FYI in case someone thinks they "have" to have a "rimfire" scope.
