Fiscal irresponsibility is the worse thing for us as a national issue. Being deep in debt to our economic and military adversaries is absolutely foolish.
The rest is politics. I agree with your first statement Shane, absolutely and without reservation. But politics is how we got in this situation. And to the OP, I'll be damned but I actually agree. The welfare state unless stopped will ruin us. Female votes cemented that and other liberal foolishness that we will never be able to divest ourselves of. The pill opened the door to a lot of irresponsibility, which furthers all the other bullschit. I think the pill and the female vote are pretty close to the same thing though.

I've thought for a long time that voting rights should be reserved for those who have performed some form of service to their country.
It could be most any form of service to country, state, or local community. Basically something to instill a sense of Pride of Ownership in the country.
The ticks and other bloodsuckers should not rate a vote.
Gender, race, sexual pref, religion, etc, etc, should not be a factor.

Not culling our own. Can't say exactly when it happened. Used to be when someone was screwing up, when the couldn't hack it, or were just plain nuts we told them and put an end to it.
Now people's screw ups are celebrated as their diversity, those that can't hack it are just victims of some sort of disability or oppression; and the crazy ones... hell we put those jokers into political offices.
