Have seen them and they are a decent scope at their price point. That said, they are made in Japan and not in Germany or the Czech Republic.

I don't think I want one if Wal-Mart sells them.

Agreed. I'm actually disappointed/surprised that Zeiss would move that far down market.

Academy had Conquests. Not much difference. Except for a few Leupolds, Rugers, and Remingtons, mostly import junk.

My experience at Wal-Mart is that they only sale things they can get a much lower price point. They even sometimes sell a quite similar model. It may have a very similar model number but be designed a little cheaper to sell at Wal-Mart. I noticed this years ago when they sold a very similar fishing reel but the model number was one digit different. This cheaper model was a Wal-Mart exclusive and not even listed on the manufacture's web site.

It just makes me wonder about the real price to produce these Zeiss scopes and the possibly inferior parts that would be needed to reach that price point.

I asked much the same question, and got verification from the Zeiss guy who posted here, that the Terra is a complete redesign.

JG,

Have you had a chance to compare the Terra with the Conquest or or other similar scopes? I'm waiting for this one to shake out so we'll know what it's really about. Can't go with hype, PR, ads, etc.

I know what your saying about buying scopes at Walmart but I would think Zeiss would still make a quality product. People always said that Zeiss never advertised enough but they are still a top name. I've not seen a Terra scope yet but I'm thinking that maybe Zeiss realizes how much stuff is bought from Walmarts all over the country. Maybe this is their attempt at advertising their quality by putting it in stores that have never seen it. Ill bet if its Zeiss it's a good product. If its as good as a Conquest only time will tell.

I have not seen one yet. I'll be interested in your take as well. Regardless of all the hype I'd probably buy a VX2 instead.

I should have a 2-7x32 Terra tomorrow to compare to my last run 2.5-8x32 Conquest. Thanks for going on vacation Doug, and don't forget to bring your guys some salmon or halibut or something.

Midway has a $100 rebate going on now for select Zeiss scopes, including the Terra 3X9.

Zeiss has a $20 rebate on Terra scopes. Larger amount on ones outside my pay grade.

Terra may be to zeiss what rifleman is to leupold , a way most anyones budget can afford one of the high end brands and these people don't have clue what optics quilty is , let alone believe tat bushnell , burris and many others make as good or better scopes at these lower price points

Perhaps, but I find the reticle on my 2.5-8x32 Conquest visible about 5 minutes longer than my 3.5-10x40 VX-III Leupold.

$299 from Midway is a great price to find out how it stacks up against a new VX-2.

If I was looking for a scope I would do the midway rebate just to test one out. I have looked at a 3-9 at a store and it looked fine but hard to tell anything inside the store.

It's also impossible to tell how they'll hold up over time, until that time is up, know what I mean? I'll take a proven commodity...VX2, Elite 4200, etc.
