I just bought a Rock River AR, M4 style.
Which sight should I mount on it? EOTech?
ACOG? Aimpoint?

Kind of depends what you want to do with it. I have an EOTech on my SOCOM 16, but use it for a house gun. I understand the EOTechs are being used to 200 meters, but I have not tried it. My thoughts are you bought an M4 for fun and for close work. not to shoot t distance.any are good ACOG are just too dang expensive right now or I would have one. If you have not checked in already try here http://www.snipershide.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=004158#000003lewis

I like the EOTech/Bushnell Holosights too. I've never looked at the higher priced numbers like the ACOG since they are just too much money and the Holosight does all I need. If you go with a holosight, I'd look seriously at a AA battery model.

FWIW I've shot ACOGs to 600 yards and they do fine. They are expensive and IMHO(someone can change my opinion with other data) they would be the ticket on a my life depends on this gun if I had to have "optics"
That being said I hear much good about EOtech and for your uses I believe it or other suggested routes are the way to go.

If you turn down the EOTech reticle until you can just barely see it, you can shoot with it at any distance the rifle can shoot.

I have an EoTech on my AR and if my life depended on the rifle that would be the first thing to get taken off! I wouldn't trust any sight that had to be turned on and EoTechs are not that quick to turn on plus the battery life on mine is less than I would like.
I would look at the ACOG or the Ziess that do not require batteries.

David,
Realisticly, what will the Carbine used for?
Patrol rifle? Plinking/Fun/Home defense? 3-Gun Competition? Primary walkabout Gopher getter?
The word "Optic" these days, encompasses a vast number of aiming devices that are growing to be more and more specialized with every day that passes.
What are YOUR needs?
It would help folks answer the question.
Have fun with the new Carbine!!! E4E
My Tractor ain't sexy! My Rifle however, has issues with the matter. The wife Definately ain't cornfused! Good thing I have a Dog to come home to!!!!!!

As E4E said, your use is the primary criteria. For me, I've always used scopes in configs like those below but recently tried a Holosight on my friend's AR-10 and was impressed with the quick acquisition and even accuracy possible with that type of sight. If I were buying optics for a short/med range rifle today, I'd likely try something like the Eotech based on the good feedback I've seen on their performance/durability. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid114/p2065b3ba7188f0ee43107815b0d776c4/f8d005d8.jpg)

I really like my Aimpoint...battery life is good and one shot hits out to 300 all day long...I too don't like to rely on batteries and have a ARMS 40L BUIS and a Leupold VX-II 2-7X36 in Leupold QRW rings...at 2 power I can still shoot with both eyes open...at 7 power I hit the 500 meter gong nearly each time with 15 clicks up and windage according to Ma Nature...HTH
