There is a used one in the local shop for $800. Open sights added with 1.5-5 vari-x iii in qd rings. What is your opinion on the Mark V? I have never shot one. Winchesters, Rugers, Mausers, and Remingtons are what I am used to. Thanks!

Big ole heavy action, well built and strong.

Synthetic stock could be replaced by a McM. My Mk V (7RM) has a McWoody Sako Safari.. A replacement stock would be a big upgrade.

I have a Mark V Synthetic in .270 Wby. Great action, smooth and super strong. Mine is also extremely accurate. If the one you are looking at is in good shape that is a super deal considering the scope and rings are worth probably at least $300+ which means you'll be getting the rifle for less than $500. I would snatch that up in a heartbeat if I were you.

Overall, I have always liked the Weatherby action. Heavy, but well built and strong. I also like the shorter bolt lift compared to the other actions you listed. I agree with what has already been stated in that it is a great deal with the Leupold on it. Put a McMillan on it and you are still coming out ahead, IMO.

That is a good deal.

Not much of a Wby fan, but the one Mk V action I do have may be the fastest cycling rifle in the safe. Slick action and 60* bolt lift are a good combo.

The action is worth more than that...

That is a good deal on a 375. My 375 Wby is a custom on a very early MK 5. Mine has a Brown stock and a 26" #5 Mc Gowen barrel. It shoots very nice using 375 H&H and 375 Wby ammo. The MK 5 will feed the H&H very smoothly and should shoot good. The tigger is nice and can be adjusted if needed. You may want to change the stock later. Is it the one in the classic or the MC tupperware stock? You will like it and it will be a good rifle. Randy

I now have three Mk Vs after falling in love with my first--a .340 Wby Accumark. They are very smooth, quick, and accurate. My .375 (.375 Wby in my case) was my choice on a recent trip to SW Alaska.

I'd buy it for $800, if I didn't like it, I'd keep the scope and rings and then put the rifle back up for sale for $800.

The synthetic Mark V's are one of the best deals on the market IMO; they are not real "lookers" so they sell cheap; but shoot great.
These guns retailed for $1100. I picked up a .270 mag on the cheap w/ plans to resale until I took it out and it shot the group below. Put it in a McMillan stock and cerakoted it Blue Titanium. Now it looks good AND shoots .75' groups.

Thanks everyone! Anyone have a picture of an express or classic style stock on a Mark V? maybe a fake wood finished McMillan with a red pad? Does it make them look like a real rifle? wink Any other suggestions welcomed as well.

Not a big bore, but this is a Mark V 7mm-08 Stainless Carbine(6 lug) in a McMillan Sako Classic.

I have a Weatherby MkV Synthetic, .300 Wby Mag., which I have restocked with a McMillan Edge, bedded, and barrel recrowned. With Talley LW rings, and Leupold VX3 2.5-8 scope, it tips the scale at a hair under 9 lb. Accuracy is excellent, especially with Barnes 165 gr. TSX bullets.

Restocking a Synthetic is a major upgrade and improvement, IMO.

Like most guides I am not a big fan of Weatherby rifle - but will admit that most problems with them stem from lack of familiararity and operator error, rather than any intrinsic issues with the rifles.
that said, if I saw that same deal I wouldn't pass it up.

Those Monte Carlo stocks are ugly, but they work pretty well on taming recoil. As for Weatherby cartridges... Well I think of Roy Weatherby as a guy who would go into an "all you can eat, $10!" Buffet and ask for $20 worth. YMMV
