I read where someone ram 30-30 cases Through the 357 herrett dies to form the shoulder then loaded it with 30-30 bullets and fired them in his herrett to fire form the brass. Until this I never heard of such. I guess my question will this work.

The Herrett case is shorter that the parent 30-30 case. This sounds like a good way to possibly blow up the gun. Shortcuts in reloading never seem to work out as well as you would like them to. Stick to the tried and true, safe method.

Ummm...you had it right until you got to "....30-30 bullets..."

I loaded for one a number of years ago, for a Contender. You do start with .30-30 brass, although you could also start with with .375 win brass. Run through the sizer/case forming die, to size the neck and push the shoulder back. Trim cases to length. Run a load that is ~10-15% below max. Seat bullet (a .357 dia bullet) to the rifling and fireform, to minimize case stretch.

After fireforming, neck size, or at least back off the sizer so it does not push the shoulder back. Then it's just load development.

Guys, I fully agree. I have always formed the cases as Bob Milek explained the process when he and Steve Herrett designed the cartridge originally. I read of how this guy said he had shortened the process and thought maybe I had missed something. I didn't see how his supposed process would work. Just wanted a sanity check. You know how some of these Internet experts are. Lol. I have had a 357 herrett sor several years and have found it to be quite accurate as well as powerful. Thanks for your input.

Agree on seating to the rifling only in part as the Herret headspaces on the shoulder. I seat mine to the lands with el cheapo bullets during initial firings and if the shoulder is set properly I leave my die alone and like to use a slight "snap" when closing the action to achieve a very slight crush fit for optimum brass life and minimal casehead separations.
