I have been perusing online sources for a gun boot to mount on my Yamaha Grizzly 700 ATV and have seen only the Kolpin brand so far, which is fine, but there are several models that appear to be quite similar, such as the Impact, Transport and TranSport.

Apparently some models have removable padded liners and some have the liner permanently attached to the inside of the hardsided case. It seems that the removable liner would probably be preferable as it would be easier to dry.

Basically I am looking for something to solidly mount on the cargo rack on the side rear of the ATV and provide a weatherproof way of carrying a scoped, bolt action rifle.

Any insights would be appreciated!

I've got the plastic base that bolts onto the rear rack. I've never heard anyone say they liked the metal base (either type). My scabbard has a removable liner and the top pulls off. It is not the hinged model. I guess it's called the Impact style now. It was listed as the IV when I bought it. It's pretty tough and protects my long guns. I also have a rifle rack on the front rack. If my son is hunting with me we slip his long gun in a cheap soft case and put his in the rack.

you want steel mounting brackets and a steel holster loop for the case. I have seen the plastic brackets break like matchsticks. You want the removable liner that velcro's into the case. You want steel pins to hold the case to the steel holster loop.

I have been using the Koplin mount since 2005. I have repaired the plastic mount several times but it is still holding up.

I use to run the Kolpin gun boots but I got tired of the mounts breaking or bending. I got this box for my Foreman several years ago and have been using it to carry my rifles and other hunting gear. It will hold 2 rifles in soft cases and plenty of other gear. IMO, your rifle is so much better protected in one of these boxes compared to a gun boot.
