Trying to get yourself a decent deal is a bad thing??? When obviously somebody else didn't want it. Seems like you're made of money, I'm not. frown

Dave,
IMO the shop would be crazy to sell a Montana 243 for anything less than $800. The only way I'd see a Montana for $500 is if I brought shortactionsmoker a dozen cases of Miller Lite....

Kimber.....no doubt you're right, but a guys got to try. Unfortunately, all I have at the time was the amount I offered, and the shop it's in will NOT carry Kimber rifles due to the amount of returns from several years ago. They will not touch a new Kimber.....so I figured I had a bit of a bargaining point there. I also saw where another 24HCF member picked up a pre 64 70 for about the same amount and thought I'd give 'er a whirl. I was inspired......too bad that I wasn't lucky at the same time.

Guys gotta try is right, but 99% of places when you come in asking for a 50% discount aren't even going to give you a second thought.

Go back and offer them 750.00 or so if they'll do lay-away, even if they won't go that low it's not an insulting offer.

I have two Kimber 243s.

One 84m with the two position safety, I guess from 2004 or 2005. Shoots great, nice wood, kills deer. It wears a Leupy Vari-x 4.5-14x40. I tried a lot of factory ammo and it likes almost everything. But it does not like anything from Federal.

The other is a Montana and it wears a Swarovski Z3 3-9x36. Shoots great and very nice to carry all day, kills deer. Because of the current ammo situation I bought some prvi partizan to try. The Montana likes it.

I think it was 1-10 when you could get a Montana in .243

I have a .243 Montana. I'm pretty sure it's 1:10.
