The Lyman book shows their accuracy load for 155 gr. Nosler J4 Match bullets is 44 gr. Benchmark at 61K psi and 2,861 fps.

My best loads with the 150 gr. NBT has been with H-4895. Benchmark seems like a fast powder to be used in the .308 with a 155 gr. bullet. Lyman was using 9 1/2 Rem primers, shooting these loads form a ten twist, 24" tube.

After reading Pat's stuff with the 155 Scenar, I'm wanting to try them in my .308.

I would appreciate top performing loads for this bullet. Does anyone know what Pat loads his with?

I think he's using 45 or 45.5 gr. Varget in Lapua cases.

You need to remember those 155 Scenars use a bit more case capacity than standard 155's, they're about as long as a 175 SMK.

Everybody I've seen is using 45.2-45.5 grains of Varget with the 155's. Mine likes 45.4

I'm using 46 grains to get to 2,950, with no pressure signs (24" barrel)and good brass life. Excellent accuracy.

I hear you on the comment re: Benchmark seeming to be too fast a powder, but another load I like even better than Varget is 46 grains of TAC for 2,950 and excellent accuracy. That load is from published data.

Both using either Lapua or R-P brass and federal LR match primers.

In the 45.5-grain area with IMR 4895 for any of the 155 low-drag bullets.

I've been running 46g varget, cci 250's, and lc lr brass. It shoots decent but I've been playing with AR comp and its showing good results with 175's so I'm going to try it with 155's soon.

I use 46.3 of Varget behind a #2156 Sierra 155 grain HPBT in my 31 inch Palma barrel. No pressure signs even in 90 degree weather. I use Lapua cases and WLR primers. Chamber was cut with a US palma team reamer.

Im using 46.5 in winch. cases and 210m primers. This load shoots around 2870 in my 24" barreled heavy rifle. I also shoot the same load in a 21" factory barrel. Both rifles shoot this load less than a half inch.

I shoot 600 yds monthly at our benchrest match, and the factory guys shooting well with the 155`s use IMR8208 and N150. I have seen sub 1/2 MOA from a certain Savage!!

Here's my load from my custom Savage 16FLHSS. Sorry, haven't chronographed it yet. Seated for magazine function but very accurate at 200 yards.

Bullet: Lapua 155 gr. Scenar
Powder: Hodgdon Varget 44.5 grs
Primer: Wolf Large Rifle
Case: Lapua
LOAL: 2.840 (2.216 base to ogive with Stoney Point)
Comments: Jam length with Lapua 155 gr. Scenar is 2.266 (about 2.900 LOAL). Bullets seated to give 0.050 bullet jump

44.5 gr of XBR 8208. Doesn't compress like Varget and is easier on seater stems.

As I didn't have much Varget when working with the 155 Scenar, I tried RL15 and H4895. With Lapua brass, both were at 2,850fps+ from 22" factory bolt actions. I don't have the exact charges in front of me, but will find them later. I'd likely have tried Varget first, if I'd had a keg on hand, but the other powders worked fine.

I worked up to 47.5 grains Varget. Shoots 2920 out of a 22 inch barrel. Very accurate.

How’d you get all that Varget in a case? Drop tube?

I run 155 Scenar’s exclusively with 48.5 gr Varget in a Lapua case. It gets 2900 fps in my 22” 308’s. So compressed a load it is that seating depth is “push it until won’t go no more”. Though arbitrary, this load is one ragged hole accurate in all of my, currently 5 ea, 308’s.

Throttle fixes everything. If it doesn't fix the problem, it’ll end the suspense.

You may consider CFE223. My Ruger American shoots 150 Interlocks into 1/2 moa at 2910 fps. The Scenars should do the same.
