We used Steelie's load of TAC behind the 200 gr TTSX last June in Africa and filled two trucks with dead critters. Recovered one bullet after it traversed the diagonal length of a warthog.

Huge Varget fan here, but look elsewhere to max out potential for the 338 Federal/358 Winchester. Powders like Varget take up too much space in the case. TAC is a perfect solution....you may want to try CFE223 too. I'm having luck with it in the 338 Federal.

Benchmark would be of interest with the 180/358 too.

I use the 200 gr Remington rn and pointed bullets. Varget powder. Whitetail killers. I now use Lake City 7.62X51 cases with one pass in the 358 die.

I use 52 gr. H-322 with a 200 gr. TSX for 2700 fps in a Ruger Hawkeye all weather with a 22" barrel.

47.5 gr. RL-7 gives the same velocity with 200 gr. TTSX's in the same rifle.

I would start at 48.0 gr. RL-7 with the 180 gr. TTSX's and work up in your rifle.

243,
I have used 36 gr. of IMR-3031 with the original 180 X in a 358 BLR with great results. Shot a large buck with it at about 30 yards, devastating results.
I use that same load in a 358 Sako Carbine now, shoots right around 1" at 100 yards.
Its a nice caliber.

When I had my BLR I used 3031. I dug out this target. I killed a bunch of deer and hogs with it. Pretty devastating load.

Ive used a speer 250 grain over 44 grains of IMR 4064 and a 215 fed primer in my 358 BLR for decades, very tight groups under 1" off the bench are common at 100 yards, its only leaving the muzzle at about 2330 fps but it has been very effective on deer and elk hunts even out at 250-300 yards, on the rare occasions I needed to shoot that far.
I site in 3.5" high at 100 yards , its about dead on at 200yards and about 10" low at 300 yards.
you don,t need high velocity, just a controlled expending bullet placed where it destroys vital organs and that speer 250 is designed to expand at the velocity its impacting at!
