not really, any ballistics on a 444+ grain conical wont be that great. 45-70 was a 600-800 yard gun, even some muzzleloaders back in the original days used to shoot huge slugs for competition and sport hunting.

Long range shooting, a heavy bullet is what you want to retain energy and its also less affected by wind.

One reason i like my 58. It does have poorer ballistics over the 54 but that big ball is going to leave a big hole in what ever it hits.

If I wanted to shoot a muzzleloader at long range, a saboted spitzer would be my choice. Higher BC and higher velocity than any bore-sized bullet.

It's not the weight of the bullet that bucks wind, it's the BC.

Of course if you want to shoot long range with sabots, you may as well just use a centerfire.

Parker has a new 325gr sabot, have you seen it? I heard the BC on it is amazing.

Heck my 58 I am working on 200 yard loads for. I want to just have some fun and see what she can do for groups at that distance.
