I have and like them both. My 6x36s include some M8s that are over 20 years old, still excellent and very difficult to distinguish from my most recent FXII. My only 6x42 is a recent FX3, and I have to be very critical to assert I notice a difference between it and the FXII 6x36. The real difference is during the last/first shards of daylight, where the larger objective gives a little more advantage...but only a little. I consider the 6x42 something of a specialty scope, and it's on a favorite and very accurate bean field rifle, a Ruger #1S in 7mm Rem Mag. That rifle is pretty heavy, but for that use, it's perfect. Very easy to use both, eye relief and eye box are very forgiving. And I like the LRD in my 6x36 alot. The 6x36 with dots is my favorite hunting scope. Everything about it is just right.

Run the 42s, 36s and now a 33. I prefer the 36 over the 42 for being compact. All work well.

I have a 6x36LR on my 270 horse gun. Slim under the leg, long enough for a 270, optics are fine.
It's going on 5 years old? Holds zero good enough, lots of bouncin' around in pickup as well.
I have a FX3 6x42LR on a 7lb 300 WSM and it has been a good scope.
Pretty much flip a coin.
Nice to have both rifles setup basically the same with ballistics/dots. Shoot the same way at a deer.
You should get one of each...grin

Thanks for all the imput folks, I ended up ordering the 6x36, a scope I've owned in the past. At what point does one learn, I guess I can blame it on having too many rifles...?
