Hi guys , I need a nice plastic/ hard rubber, butt plate for a late , 60'ish , pre 64 westerner, I also need a source for any and all factory .264 mag ammo. When I get a new to me gun in I strap an older leupold 36 X with the 1/8 min dot to see if the gun is a shooter and holds promise. I have been very, very lucky in buying pre 64's that were better shooters than a factoy gun should be, I have had to find pet ammos out of the factory fodders but the guns were used but not abused targets and varminters, this is my first westerners, I will use it in my old man condo stand that will have some shots up to 450-500 yards, being a 26" barrel and nice gun it will not be a truck gun.. very best and thanks in advance.

No pre 64 guys online today? What pad did Winchester use on the Westerners?, I am going to find a new pad as I like a long LOP buy I want the factory hard rubber buttplate as it came from the factory and the solid red rubber or honeycomb ,what ever Winchester used in 0ct. of 1960.. Are hole spacing the same on 1960 pad and HR buttplates? very best

The Westerner had the hard rubber butt plate. The Fwt had a red Winchester webbed pad (made by Packmayr)

I have owned a Pre 64 westerner with a stainless steel barrel since 1975, longest shot I ever made on a game animal was with this rifle, one shot, one kill.

I bought this one for that very reason, Im gonna try for a 500 yard whitetail. I am a shooter first and pre 64 collector second. I know I will need to reload for this gun unless I can find a sub moa factory load, Im trying to round up factory ammmo, Nosler makes several loads, I like the accubond, it and BTs have always worked well for me. very best

I know I paid to much but I have chased one of these for the last 5 years and somebody always slipped in and knocked me out of the saddle so I put the max up at the end and let em chase me!! Looking at the pix of the feed ramp I feel it has been shot very little. I cannot figure how the buttpad got so beat up, I would think it would kick about like my 300 win mag. I notice recoil more the older I get but never feel it nor flinch on game, just on the bench. very best , Im stoked as a kid, the old pre- 64's just 'do it' for me. Ive yet to get a +MOA shooter , most have been sub with pet factory ammo, the varminters and targets are 1/2 inch guns with pet ammo and good shooting weather.

WP,

I'll check locally for some .264 WM ammo.

I may actually have some.

I took a quick look...............I have some left overs from my .264 days, some factory loads, reloads and empty cases. Also a set of RCBS dies. If you're interested I'll add up what I have and maybe we can work something out. I sold the rifle a few years ago and don't envision getting another.

Tmitch , that would be great as Ive been told to get the best out of these guns ,a fellow needs to reload. I sure have been very lucky with factory ammo in the last 20 years, I feel it has gotten better, probably the mfg. technology and bullets. Same as the CNC vs old hand machine in the gun building trade . thanks and very best
