Trying to work up some target and lite game loads for a 35 Whelen I just got. Using some of the supplies I already have.

Loading 158 Hornady 158 JHP -data from Lyman49 SR4759 22-23.6

Need data or quick load? for:
158 LSWC bc .117 Lee mold - Tried 22gr SR4759 wild around target primers OK
125 Xtreme plated FP - Tried 22gr 4759 POI lower but grouping 1.5" less recoil than above.
Shot 50 of these smile

Have some Factory 200 gr but plan on getting 200 - 225gr and lighter load for hunting primitive hunting season later. 200 yards max, 200lb deer. Don't need or want 2700fs/3300e. at $1.80 a pop.

Gun is CVA Elite 24"
Brass resized 30-06

Have 5744 AND Unique now also. Advice?
Thanks in advance

My deer load for the .35 Whelen is a 225gr. Sierra or Nosler bullet over a moderate charge of IMR4064. The load is accurate, moderate recoil and effective on whitetail deer. I did extensive research in arriving at this load, both reading and range time. RL-15 is also a good powder, but I have yet to work up a load for it. For a light recoiling target load I shoot a 200-215gr, cast bullet over 15gr. of Unique.

Thanks for reply, Have been trying to find Unique locally and trying to figure out a mold for cast. No lee deals on that one. Have had good results from loading 270win 130SST with H4831 and 9mm, 38sp, 45acp in cast but there is a ton of data for those. Have Bullseye, HP38, AutoComp, WSF, WST, Titegroup, Clays, CFE also. Got Unique

Unique is a good one for cast boolit rifle loads. W-231 is another one I've had good luck with.

I just got a 245(i think) 35 caliber mold from NOE molds and am just waiting to find the time to go shoot some and see how they do.

Check out their website.

A good source of cast bullets for those who are not set-up to cast their own is Western Bullet Co. in Missoula, MT. I have used their bullets in my .35 Whelen with complete satisfaction.

In my gun 32.0 2015 will do 1950 fps with a Hornady 180XTP FUN
ALSO just a little more accurate... a 170 gas check trunk cone SAECO hard cast, Same speed.
Also just worked up this sweetheart 45.0 RE7 2385 fps 200 Sierra RN.
Federal reformed '06 brass Federal 210 primers. Bug hole groups.
Remington Classic 22" barrel.

Well, for my 2 cents worth...
I have two loads worked up.
1) is for the 180gr Speer Hot-cor, 56gr of IMR3031.
2) is for the 225gr Sierra Gameking, 56gr of IMR4895.
I know you said you wanted to use what you had 'on hand', but maybe you can use this info later on.

Thanks for the replies, got 225's on the way. I still want to work on the 125gr for plinking, its already showing good groups. And maybe cast some of the 158's with some a heavy Linotype mix to see if I can get them to group. Was using SR4759, will try the Unique next with them.

Try some Trail Boss for light loads. IMR has some load tips on it's website.

I use it in just about all my plinking loads, all the way up to 375 H&H.
