Do a googlefu search on primer brisance. A bunch of things pop up. Take your pick from there.

Precision Shooting has done articles with long exposure photography documenting the flame length and shape and brissance of primers. More recently German Salazar did some work and posted his results on his blogsite. You can make some very rough pronouncements, but it's very brand and lot specific. Some brand's standard primer appeared more potent that other brands magnums.
