My first handgun was given to me by a great aunt.I was 10 years old,the pistol belonged to her father,my great grandfather. He carried it when he checked the beer at miller brewrey in milwaukee wis.in the 1880s.He died before he had a chance to fire it,or a need to fire it.She gave it to me unfired and in the box,but destroyed the original 38 s&w cartriges. The pistol is a mod 2 double action serial # 8211.I have shot it with new rem 38 s&w ammo.Just a few rounds,I had to shoot it,just to know what it was like.I am now 69 and still enjoy owning it.

I still have ALL the handguns I have ever owned. ( not that many) The most interesting is the Smith and Wesson 38 Special that belonged to my grandfather. Grandmother gave it to me just before she passed away. He bought it in the late 40's I think. I have the box, cleaning rod, and four boxes of Remington ammo he purchased at the same time. Six shells are missing from one box and from the looks of the gun that's all it has ever been shot.

I also have a nice early 70's Rugger Super BearCat, a Rugger mark I .22 with heavy 6 & 7/8 inch barrel, a new Beretta 96 in 40 cal, a Raven .25, a Remington .44 cap and ball revolver, a CVA.50 cal percussion pistol, and a PPK .380.

I never trade handguns because I just don't shoot them enough to wear them out. Rifles and shotguns are a different matter. I have worn out an 1100, shot out a few rifle barrels, and traded "up" several times. I still have my very first gun, a 20 ga. 870. I learned to shoot with it as have my sons. I will keep it until I can no longer use it and then my eldest son gets it.

Yes, I have it and all the rest as well.

My first was Single Six Ruger. I still shoot it on occasion.

The rest run the gamut from Makarovs to XP 100s, and the handguns outnumber the long guns in my gun cabinet.

Still got mine. A SS .44 mag Ruger Redhawk 7 1/2 in barrel. I got it for a high school graduation gift in 84. Still at tight and accurate as the day I got it.
Keeb

The very back of the barrel where the bullet enters as it leaves the cylinder.

Cool! You just gotta keep the good ones, and the first is always special no matter what it is. You have a definate keeper there.

Still have it. Christmas 1964, a nickel Hi Standard Double Nine. Western style with a swing out cylinder. We generated a lot of empty brass in the early days. Still looks new. I could never see making a 6 shot .22 revolver when there is generally room for 8 or 9. Interesting, by the time my son was old enough to shot he had more chooses of .22 handguns than fingers. But I've noticed over the years that his first pick is usually that same old Double Nine.

Rick....
