More luck than skill involved on the latter I can assure you.
I hope you're speaking for yourself.

I hope you're speaking for yourself. I hope your reading comprehension improves, but I understand you're at the mercy of an inferior intellect. Instead of quoting one sentence in a statement and attempting to take it out of context, try reading the entire paragraph, as this will give you a better understanding of the writer's intent. Or maybe it won't.

I believe closer is always better. That being said, I`ve seen sloppy shots on deer with H.P. rifles at 20 yrds. I`ve see the same with a bow. Crap does happen. One needs to know their limitations, but people being people, realistic distance is an arguable point, as in this thread.

What percentage of hunters have enough time to build a rifle, load, and practice enough to shoot longer ranges accurately past 800 yds.
Pretty small number.
How many hunters will look up to those who do and over extend ????
The guy's who do shoot long, and don't Caveat the message they present by the activity are also responsible for those who do over extend.

You know what Churchill said when they awoke him and he was informed that Italy had signed a mutual defense pact with Germany?
"Good...We had them last time."
Merry Christmas!

Nah. I just don't think this post:

I hope you're speaking for yourself. Warranted this response: I hope your reading comprehension improves, but I understand you're at the mercy of an inferior intellect.

Bring it on, do-nothing-dick-face.... careful with those words. it could bring on a "you're a silly poopoo head" later on and then schit gets real serious.

Realistic distance for ethical kills? After much thinking and reading a bunch of posts in this forum and others I have come to the conclusion the max distance for ethical kills is 4 yards. Anyone who shoots further than 4 yards or has ever shot further than four yards is a slob hunter and deserves to have their ethical card taken.

Having had jobs and having been married, I can generalize on the above. It is possible to find fault in everything someone does, doesn't do, says, or doesn't say. It is possible to find a million things per second to criticize about anyone. But not challenging someone, can be have problems too. So as we get smarter, we pick our battles like chess moves. Then our problems are mostly others picking battles with us. When I pulled the trigger on a 477 yard shot in 2013, I knew I had him. When I started firing at 625 yards in 2008, I did not know what I was doing.

Did you know that you did not know what you were doing??? No. The first year I got a deer, i got 4 deer. I learned how far I could shoot by shooting at deer, elk, and antelope. I had never shot at a target other than at the range at 100 yards. We hired a guide one year on an Indian reservation. The first thing he did was set up a target to see how far we could shoot. I now act like my own guide, and each year before hunting starts, I shoot at a target at longer and longer ranges until I find how far away i can be and keep it in a 12" kill zone. I practice on a number of days and keep measuring wind with a Kelstrel and the range with a Leica. I am not trying to be ethical or preach to anyone else. I am just trying to do things right.
