You also could try feeding a round from the 9th round position from slide lock and from closed slide slingshot, and check the rounds for deformation and/or setback and see if that tells you anything related to the issue.

Is the breech face behind the cartridge or slightly covering the cartridge. As in over/on-top of the rim, or behind the rim?

The breech face is partially covering the cartridge. It is not fully in battery. But the breech face is smooth, with no machining marks or burrs.

How new are the magazines?

Many moons ago I had the same problem with my Glock 22 mags. I'd run 3K+ rounds through the gun with ZERO malfunctions of any kind, then was forced (admin B.S.) to trade out my three proven magazines for three new ones. All three did exactly what you're describing. It was my work gun, and I realized failure wasn't an option--------------nor was getting any common sense help from the dud who was my supervisor at the time. So out of desperation I did some trouble shooting and decided to tear into my new mags. I bent the top loop of the magazine spring down slightly on each mag (IIRC) and immediately fixed the problem. Those three mags then went thousands and thousands of rounds without any more trouble.

In MY case the gun had been proven, and the ammo didn't change, so it was very obviously a magazine issue. I've no idea if that's your problem, but the symptoms sure sound familiar.

Your post makes a lot of sense. After reading everyone's posts, I believe it is a magazine issue.

I'm going to send the mags back to Glock and ask that they be rebuilt or replaced.

Thanks to all for the input!

I'm assuming this is a new pistol, and that you're only loading it once you get to the range. If so (I hate assuming) then you might try leaving your magazines fully loaded for a week or two. The turnaround time with Glock would be at least as long if not longer, and this might take care of the problem. Just a thought.

I am bumping this one back up because I found a thread on Evan Marshall's site that describes the same issue and the solution that worked for one person, but only for a little while. Look here. The discussion of this issue starts August 9.

Cheyenne;

Thanks for the link. It describes the problem I'm having with my 30S perfectly.

I was at the range yesterday and had the same FTF issue with 230 grain Gold Dots, but not with 230 grain Remington JHP's. I brought the pistol and all four magazines back to the dealer and he said he was calling Glock to have them pick it up at their expense so it could be examined, repaired or replaced. IMO, any modern day .45 should be able to feed any maker's quality .45 ammunition.

I like everything else about the 30S. It would be nice if it worked reliably.

Went back & read this thread as well as the link that Cheyenne posted.

I'd bet on a combination of mag spring & follower.........never had this problem with a Glock but have worked with similar issues on 1911 GI mags.

The follower in some of those can "tip" as the mag has various numbers of rounds in it & thus can affect the angle that the round is released at; combine that with a marginal mag spring or ammo on the light side (short barrel Gold Dots??) & it could be the problem.

Tried the returned G30S today. A total of 260 JHP rounds, using all four magazines, both slow fire and double taps. All 230 grain loads. Speer Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger, Federal HST +P, Remington Golden Saber and Federal Tactical bonded +P. The G30S functioned 100%. Zero malfunctions. Whatever was wrong with it, Glock service corrected. All they said in their note was "inspected, upgraded, function fired, meets factory specifications."
