I have been debating between a Leupold VX 2x7 or a VX 3x9 x40 or Maybe a VX III 2.5x 8. I will be using tally lows and am ordering a edge. This will be my deer rifle.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

I put a VX 2 3x9x40 on my new FW in 7-08, I went with Leupold dual dovetails. it weighs right at 8 pounds with sling..feels perfect to me.

ehunter, Got a VX1 3-9x40 in Talley ex-lows on my fwt.243(S.C.) Got plenty of clearance on both ends and no problem getting eye relief with room to spare on the tube. I'm not sure if the ex-lows are a catalog listed item or not yet, but you can definitely get them from Talley. The slim design of the Leupolds like the ones you listed just seem to go with the lines of the Fwt.

The only reason that I went with a VX-2 3-9X40mm on my Featherweight was because I have a long action 30-06. If I had a short action, I would have for sure gone with the VX-3 2.5-8X36mm.

I would use a straight 6x unless all of your shooting inside 300yds, then I would use a straight 4x , brand of scope ,Me I like Weavers cuz I am cheapo and they have served me well. A lot of people like the Leupolds, I just never did , but I ain't used a newer one, mainly because my weavers never had a problem.

My First choice would be a Leupold 6x42 (it's what's on my 7-08).
My Second choice would be a Leupold 4x33.
I'd buy the first with the Heavy Duplex, and send the second one back to have one put in.

Mine carries a VXII 2-7X33 in Talleys. While I might want a bit more for working up loads, in truth, such a small difference in loads wouldn't be evident in the hunting field. Seems a very good match to me.
