Hey guys, I recently bought a Kimber 84L chambered in 30-06 and I'm having trouble locating the correct scope bases for this gun. Cabela's did not carry them and the service rep at Midway USA knew as much about them as he dud building a spaceship. And of course, as upstanding of a company and Kimber seems to think they are, after spending $1,500 on a rifle, they send you home with a nice cardboard box complete with cheap cable lock.

Now that my rant is over, I'm wondering what model of base I'm looking for and where to find them. This will be a two-piece base. The ones I originally ordered from Midway USA were for 8400 series rifles or the 84m. In no description of ANY base have I found "made for use on 84L. The bases I received fit the screw hopes just fine, but when the rear base is placed on the gun it either hangs off the back of the gun and hits the bolt, or hangs over the chamber at the rear of where you would load your shells. Bought a Nikon Prostaff 2.5x10x50. I purchased a set of Leupold dovetail standard high rings, just looking for the bases so that I can get this thing up and running. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Check out the Talley website here, they list the rings for an 84L.

I think you can order them here on 24hcf by going to the "outfitters gear shop" link at the top of the page.

That link you gave me is for the rings(I think) right? I have a set of rings or will buy new ones if I need to, I am just having trouble finding bases and it looked like on that website there were only bases for the 8400's and 84m

84M two piece bases also work for the 84L. Everything is the same except the length of the receiver.

Are you looking for bases for Leupold style rings (windage adjustable, not dual dovetail)?

Any of these would work. You want 8-40 screws (pre-2003 were 6-48). Most come in silver too:

I bought Leupold Standard High rings but then received Dual dovetail bases. If I need to change rings I will do so, but I'd like to use these Leupold rings if possible. It just looks like I'm going to need a very short base in the back and the one I received is about an inch and a half long so it hangs over the action or the bolt just depending on how it sits. So I just need to know which bases will work for these rings. Thanks for all the help guys!!

The bases hanging over the action port is normal.

Those links that Whelen posted show a shorter base that won't hang over... The bases I received may not even allow the thing to be loaded normally or eject the shells

Dual dovetail bases will overhang in the rear. They have to, due to the screw spacing.

The standard (windage adjustable)Kimber or Leupold bases won't.

The dual dovetails are much preferred to the windage adjustable rear types.

Problem is that the dual dovetail hits the bolt when put on facing backwards. Put on the other way and scope ring would actually be above the action. The bases I have see Leupold Dual Dovetail Kimber 8400's. #60760
