I know Case and Queen do but I hear Queens edges need work from the factory and I don't like the new design shield on the Case knives. I just wondered if there were any other makers worth looking in to.

Moore Maker makes a pretty decent knife with 1095 carbon steel. A lot of their knives are contracted out to Queen, however. Great Eastern Cutlery makes nice knives as well.

GEC makes quite a few stag knives, haven't kept up with the price range though. Also might look at Kissing Crane, Bulldog, Boker, German Eye Brand and others from Germany.

Check out Canal Street Cutlery too. Bone they use, not sure about stag.
Look at the Case website, they use many different shields. You may find one that suits in the model you're looking for.

Nice knife Field Grade. The Stag GEC's tend to run over $100. But I did pick up a burnt stag Northfield (GEC) Ben Hogan #65 for about that a couple years ago at BLADE.
Take a look at the Northwoods knives sold by Knives Ship Free. Most of their Northwoods patterns are made by GEC, some are made by Queen. Derrick has those knives made special.

That may well be but this is a 72 so your Ben Hogan comparison is really irrelevant but thanks for chiming in with your unsolicited opinion. The cheapest I've seen a Stag 72 going for was 168.00 + shipping and that was a couple of years ago. I thought I made the man a fair offer but you seem to know better so I'll edit my post and withdraw the offer. Later

I thought it was a good offer. I just haven't decided exactly what I want yet. I originally had a 2 blade, Copperhead size in mind. FG, I just wanted you to know I appreciated it.

I'll sell my new, never carried, in original package (tube) GEC trapper, 2nd cut burnt stag for $100 - delivered. Model #488210
Or my new dark cherry jig boned Moose, model #661212 for $80.
Or how about an antique yellow (appears dark brown) jig bone model #331211 for $70. This one has follow ground edge by a master knife maker. This knife looks New but has been carried a few days.
So here are three new or as new GEC knives for $100 or less.
Of course I'll provide all the images you wish.

I expect that crap over in the classifieds but not over here. Either way,,, I'm to old to put up with it so I'll bow out before I say what I'm really thinking. Good luck in your quest.

New, at that price point I'd look at a Robeson Sure Edge in stag with D2 blade. Made by Queen and a really nice trapper pattern. I believe they can be had for right at $100 on Evilbay. If you're patient you can pickup a superb used custom maker knife for around $150. I have several Dunlap's & Lloyd's that I picked up cheap used. My personal favorite right now is a Jim Dunlap single blade trapper in off white micarta scales. Had a stag Dunlap and sold it like a moron... Scott
