I don't have any but you do need to be specific as to serial number range and caliber. There were quite a few variations. David

Nope, mines not dovetailed....raised ramp with a blade that's maybe 1/16" thick....saw at least one tiny little screw holding the blade into the slot on the ramp

If it were mine, I'd try and find an original also. But, I've seen some nice ones made from old silver dimes, pennies, etc, Joe.

Yeah, I'm trying to keep this gun as original as possible, I'm having a gunsmith fix the stock instead of replace, and he offered to swap out the folding Lyman rear sight with one that was adjustable for windage AND elevation.....and I said no to that, he's pretty adamant about taking the scope mounts off and plugging the holes, but I inherited the gun with a scope that my grandfather (who I never even met) mounted on there, so for sentimental reasons, I wanna keep the mounts for now, and see if I can get any accuracy out of the scope before I cross that bridge.

I would agree with that. If it worked before, it can work again. It might not be right, but I think to fill and drill more holes, would make it more wrong, Joe.

Sorry bud, just saw this. I'll keep it in mind if we have to rebarrel. I think customer wants to keep original caliber if possible.
I built a jig that I am happy with after 3 or 4 mods. I'm just starting to work on straightening the original barrel. It's going well, with a little (or a lot of) luck, I'll get it straight enough to be a casual shooter.

DawgIron, is the raised ramp about 3/8 long or is it the later longer version? I just made one for my .250-3000 1917 Perchbelly. I was going to put a piece of Gold on the blade but since I'm selling the rifle I decided to wait. I also made the blade part .042 wide and the base .060 as it should be. Also be careful with that little screw. Its a #1-76 pitch oval head machine screw and I have not been able to find anyone anywhere (yet) that makes these today. If I can help just let me know.

I have a .300 Savage Model 99EG from 1948 or 49. When I received the rifle from my late grandfather, the gun was missing a buttplate. Does anyone know what the original buttplate looked like on a 99EG of this vintage? Was it steel? Did it have an 'Indian Head' logo on it?
Also, and most importantly, does any one know where can I find an original buttplate for sale? I have seen several sites listing Savage buttplates, but I don't know what the original looked like. Would like to stay original if possible.
Thank You!

Might want to double check to make sure the buttstock hasn't been cut flat for a recoil pad before spending the $$ on a buttplate. The end of the buttstock should be curved and either the serial number or a group of 4 or so letters/numbers should be visible.

No, it wasn't cut flat. Looks like original curve. I didn't see any numbers, but I will check again to see if maybe they have worn down. Thanks.

It looks like my 99D had a tang sight at one time. I would like to find one to put on. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I think there was a guy named Gene (?) at the SavageFest in Wellsboro who had several. Wished I had picked one up then. Thanks, Jim
