Back before I bought my 338 winmag I used 160gr Hornady for moose and bear. The 338 does not kill any better.

129g Hornady Interlocks and SST's out of my CZ 550FS will both group under an inch at just over 2800 fps. Both work very well on WT's.

Gunner,

I'm amazed that Swede kicks enough and makes enough noise to keep you entertained... cool

I too have found that it is hard to find a bullet that isn't suitable for deer and antelope.

I currently use 140 gr accubonds because I have a ton. They work like a charm and will be going to WY with me again this fall.

I load for a bunch of 6.5x55's. Winchester Model 70 and Ruger 77 MK II. Started with the round in 1985. Early on it was use what you could find. I shot many, many different combinations through various rifles. When I got my first chronograph, it showed me there was very little difference in obtainable velocities between the the 140's and the lighter bullets. Shoot some steel or whack long range rocks with a 140 and then with something lighter and it is pretty obvious that the 140's land with considerably more authority.

For now I have some 130 gr Swift Sirocco's loaded to 2,900 which is about as far as I want to go. A 140 I can break 2,800, not much but a little, event though my user loads are 2,750+ .

I like 120 Nosler BT's as far as a light bullet. The ones they make nowadays are a lot tougher than the earlier ones. They can get to 3,000 and work.

My experience with Barnes bullets is the faster you can kick them out the muzzle, the better they work. I tend to reserve my Barnes 6.5 bullets for the two 264 WM's in the rack. While I bet the 120 TTSX will work fine in the Swede, I plan on sticking to lead core 140's. I'd be content to shoot nothing but a 140 Nosler partition behind RL-22 for the rest of my days. I think the Swede is not quite the speed demon that begs for the Barnes X and the rest of the monolithics.

I'll have to see how my Mauser 6.5x55 likes 120 gr. TTSX's and 120 gr. NBT's. Those two sem to have a solid following.

I have a custom mauser in 6.5X55 and have used it on the local Blacktail for years. Generally, I use a 129 gr. Hornady but with the shortage of components in the last few years I have had to switch to a 125 gr. Nosler BT. Both work well but when I can find them again I'll switch back to the Hornady just because I have used them more. I hunt with a guy that uses a 300 Weatherby and his deer are not more dead than mine.

Ive shot the 140 Sierras for years in my Swedes. Ive recovered 10 or so and all kept intact. On a whim one night I loaded some 120 Pro hunters to break the boredom of quick kills id been getting since the beginning of my Swede affair. I had them going 2800 or so shooting under an inch.

That following weekend I had a 100 lbs doe quartering hard away, so i thought id put the puny 120 to the test. At 80 yRds I hit her just ahead of the right rear hip high in the spine. The bullet traveled through the spine the length of the doe, coming to rest in the white patch of the neck. The bullet turned the entire spine to mush. The recovered bullet was a perfect mushroom and retained about 75 or so grains. Thats pretty good performance for the lighter side of bullet weight for caliber. Btw the 120s shot 1 inch higher than the 140s at 100yds, so I keep both at the ready.
