Not sure that I don't prefer the more used S&W. The lockwork on the more used revolver is smooth as silk. Both are Model 28-2's. Anybody else got pics of well-used S&W's?? I have a K22 that's been well-used, too. But I ain't throwin' it out with the bathwater!!

A gun that I have had an used for years that shows considerable wear - I still treasure.
But a similar gun, showing the same wear, caused by someone else - I'm not very interested in.

Older revolvers have real charm and can be quite pratical. But, if you intend to carry and shoot them much, they need to be well cared for. Knock the clynder out of alginment or beat it up with hot loads and even the best of them aren't worth buying. E

While I too have a personal subjective preference for hammer mounted firing pin S&W revolvers, there is no getting around the fact that current S&W revolvers are mechanically put together better now than they've ever been - Pre World War II production possibly being an exception.
Having lived through and owned many guns made during the management influence of Bangor Punta and Lear Siegler - S&W had nowhere to go but up in terms of fit, finish and performance.
Said another way - I like the old stuff but the new stuff generally shoots better.

I've got a friend in the guardian businesses that is getting ready to unload a handful of vintage S&W's and asked for my help. I have a feeling I'm going to end up getting several factory letters as almost all of them are LNIB with no marks. Iirc a few don't even have turn lines on the cylinder.
Expect a post with pics soon for help with ID and values.

I have not bought a new firearm since 1982. I have azzloads of Smith N-Frames, Ruger OM's and a pile of customs that are worth far more than what I have in them as I gathered 20 years ago. All is good.
