Does someone have the ability to compare some recoil figures?

The rifles are Tikka T3 Lite SS with Leupold scopes, within ounces of each other. Call total rifle weight 7 1/4 lbs.

Load #1
7mm-08, 140 NAB, 47.5 gr. Big Game powder, WLRM primer, MV 2850 ft/sec

Load #2
.30-06, 150 NAB, 48 gr. Varget, CCI 200 primer, MV 2675 ft/sec

Load #3
.30-06, 125 NAB, 56 gr. Varget, CCI 200 primer, MV 3175 ft/sec

Thanks,

P

not verified...ain't no math major...:) but have been using this in an excel spreadsheet and you can copy and paste it:

"6" is just the row I copied it from...then c6 is the cell location

c=column of bullet wt in grains
o=grains powder
P=fps
Q=rifle weight #

=((((C6*P6/7000)+O6*(0.77143))/Q6)*(((C6*P6/7000)+O6*(0.77143))/Q6))*Q6/64.32

Here you go - a great site for recoil comparisons and many other calculations.

The JBM one is good. Obviously stock materials and fit will effect perceived recoil. It is nice for comparing apples to apples though...

But not by much. The difference looks insignificant.

Recoil Impulse (lbs/sec):
#1 2.61, #2 2.63, #3 2.75

Recoil Velocity (fps):
#1 11.61, #2 11.69, #3 12.23

Recoil Energy (ft/lbs):
#1 15.16, #2 15.38, #3 16.85

All three would have a "recoil factor" in the 160 to 180 range.

Any rifle that has a Recoil Factor of less than 100 can be shot by anyone that can handle a rifle.

Between 100 and 200 is moderate.

Between 200 and 300 is moderately heavy.

Between 300 and 400 is heavy.

etc., etc.
