AGW,,thanks for the fast reply...I will work up some loads,,, best I can get (within the last 6 months) is 2.5 inches at 100yds. I was hoping someone would have a load that would produce better than I can make...seems like I am stuck with a poor set up. I like this rifle (CZ550) but I want it to shoot groups in the range of 1.5 inches.

I don't think I ever saw a .458 that would not shoot under MOA for 3 shots if it was properly set up. Saw a lot of riflemen who could not shoot that well but the rifles seem most capable.

Cloverleaf groups are exceedingly common at 50 yards in my experience.

AGW,
Thanks for the info. I enjoy your posts. Please keep them comming! Would you explain what you mean by the "Mild E-XXX" comments that follow some of your data? Also, it appears that you might have intended to include AA load data but if so it didn't make it in. Finally, what is your thinking about using the 450TSX as the soft/solid combo for Buff. My results in use of the TSX in .338WM 225gr on animals as large as Eland has been surperb. Finally, finally, do you have a favorite load for the 450 TSX? Thanks for your time!

In my CZ, I get 2225 fps. from 72 grns. of H4895 and Fed.215 primers with the 450 grn. TSX. 1 1/2" groups are common for me with this load.

I'll look up my load tonight for Hornady 350 grn RN's tonight. Cloverleafs @ 100 yds, about 2550 fps. Pretty sprightly pig load smile

350 grn Hornady RN, 68grns IMR 4198, crimped on the cannelure in my BSA. No pressure signs but follow the usual precautions, work up to it, etc.......

30mm,
I have a CZ550 in 458WM that will shoot an inch consistently with 450 or 500 gn bullets but throws 400gn or lighter all over the place, 3 inch groups or larger (some much larger with terrible fliers). Lighter bullets also group 12 to 18 inches higher than the 450 and 500's. The long WM tapered throat will allow a short bullet to come free of the case neck before it has engaged the rifling, mine must have been cut with a new reamer as it seems to allow a short bullet to mis align before it hits the rifling. My intended solution is to have the chamber reamed to Lott length but am concerned about ruining the accuracy with heavier bullets. Don't forget the mag is long enough to load some bullets (450 TSX) to 3.6+ inches overall which helps minimize powder compression using longer bullets. Hope you get the lighter bullets to cooperate.

"MILD" is my impression on whether the load is approaching top end pressures.
"E" numbers are the extreme spread recorded on my Oehler 35P chronograph.

I don't always take these numbers too seriously as I find that some pretty decent accuracy can be seen on occasion with lousy, meaning wide variation and the opposite where bad grouping can be noted with very small variation in extreme spread.

Because I hand weigh every charge, I have attempted to control the loads as much as humanly possible so that is the extent of my obligation to the load.

At that point, it will shoot well in the given rifle or not.

I use enough H-322 to power the 500 gr Woodleigh PP bullets to an easy 2150 fps, that load rocks on accuracy in my old tang safety Ruger African 458.

Haven't hit anything big with it either, but strongly suspect bullet performance to be stellar.
