Just wondering how often you guy's change your oil in your machines. My kawi owner manual say's every 1700 km.I have been changing it every 1000km.Also what type of mileage is on your machines.I ran into a fellow yesterday who claims to have close to 30 thousand km without even a ring job.It kinda sounded high to me but who knows.

Forgot his machine is a 94 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4.

Thanks in advance

I change it every 1000 miles, and use Mobil 1 motorcycle oil. I personally don't have a lot of miles on my quad, but I did visit with a guy who had 25,000 miles on his Honda (Rancher, I think). He also had a friend who had 15,000 miles on his quad, but I'm not sure what brand it was.
One very important item is keep the air filter clean...

Mine doesn't get a lot of use so I only have to change it once or twice a year. It's a '99 and so far, the only engine repair has been to replace a broken chain in the starter drive. I just set the valve clearance once a year and it's been great all those years.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have '84 Yamaha 225DX trike that I changed the oil in twice. The first time was about five years after we got it, and the second time was just last fall. That thing still runs awesome and has never given me any trouble and I ride it hard. Last fall I floated it down a river and tipped it in the middle. I dragged it into shallower water, and it started on the second pull. It's so old it doesn't have an odometer (or any guages for that matter) but it's got a tonne of miles on it. I think the first time I changed the oil I didn't even change the filter. Probably used 10W30 too...

I don't run anywhere close to 1000 miles a year, neverthe less I change the oil and have it serviced every year. And Kecatt has it exactly right the air filter will kill a machine far faster than the oil. So if you drive in a dusty environment really keep an eye on that.
