It always raises my blood pressure a bit when I read the comments left by the "tolerant and progressive" viewers of CBC's website.

Yep, Story is scant on details, Global news said the hunter shot the bear the evening before and the hunter and the guide went in to retrieve the bear the next morning but it was still alive and that where the global news story ends.

Sounds like a very tragic accident.
I can only imagine the panic that may have overcome the hunter who I assume moved suddenly in front of the guides attempting to stop an attack!

Nice ploy by CBC to raise the irk of the anti-hunting club mentality by showing a pic of a mother & baby cub!

n007:
Hopefully this finds you and yours well sir and thanks for sharing the story with us, I'd not heard of it until you had.

As mentioned by others, the details aren't all there and I can well imagine they might never be.

I'm not a bear expert by any stretch and have only gone into the shin tangle on 3 occasions for wounded bears and they were small Okanagan black bears.

The one thing that I recall on all occasions was that I went in solo - asking my hunting partners each time to stay at a very specific spot which I consciously kept at my back.

Based upon those times - admittedly few and long ago - I can see where a group effort could lead to multiple issues when rooting out bears.

Anyway my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased hunter and the guides too as their lives are all changed forever by this tragic event.

All the best to you this weekend sir.

Dwayne

This one strikes a bit home for me. The dead hunter is kin of my boss, who left today to go be with family. The hunter has BT/DT as far as hunting goes, so we are all a bit confused at what went down. Tragic..

The hunting world is small. Too small, I think, in times like this. May he rest in Peace and closure found for his family.
