We are gradually adding gardens to our property that was all grass when we bought it last year. We dug five new gardens this spring, though it will take a few more years to have more garden than grass....
Here are some pics of what is blooming this week

Irises both yellow and purple.

White and pink peonies. The white ones were buried in gravel last year, still blooming... that's one tough plant.

This is a Manitoba wild rose. We brought it to Ontario almost ten years ago. This is its third home since then.

and this purple thing my wife says is a columbine?

That is definately no Columbine, Colorado State flower. We dug one to take back to Texas before we found out it was against the law to desturb them. -- no

Actually that is a columbine... They vary a bit from the standard columbine shape... Believe the variety is "Black Barlow" because I just happened to notice one at a garden shop the other day and thought it very cool.

Awesome way cool pictures!

I like the pics, very nice.

Sitka is right on his identification of the Columbine, they come in a bunch of different varieties.

I just dig'em. My wife is in charge of planting and (gasp) weeding. She asks me what I think we should plant, and I usually nod my head and agree with her plans.

Beautiful! I love iris, but haven't had any luck getting any to grow. Ditto on the peonies. I love peonies, but don't even try because our property is way too shady. Peonies need a spot with almost constant sun.
