When discussing firearms and related equipment is there a general rule or guide for what is "tactical" and what isn't?
Sounds a little bit like government and their "truthiness".

"Tactical" is a term added onto something that manufacturers want to sell more of at a higher price. And you can get it in any color you want as long as it's black!

So, if I take an old junker single shot 410, duct tape a junk scope on it and paint the whole thing glossy black it magically becomes "tactical"? phooey

No, it needs to be flat black. "Glossy" and "tactical" should never be used in the same sentence (except this one).

Yeah, flat black for sure, and don't forget to attach a flashlight to the bottom of the barrel. Works better if you are wearing camo jockey shorts.

I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

tactical needs to weigh at least 15 lbs. and they prefer to be called operators.

I have laughed at the Midway fliers that have tactical gun cases and tactical pants but magazines are not listed as tactical.
