In a choice between these two rifles which would you choose? Calibre is likely to be 270 Win. The Kimber retails for around 300 bucks less here.

Or for the same price as the Nosler, the Kimber 84L select grade can be had.

The rifle will be carried a fair bit, and shot reasonably frequently at pigs, goats and deer of all sizes up to sambar and reds.

Thoughts?

FWIW
I've owned Kimbers in both Montana and Classics in 270 WSM, 300WSM, 325WSM, 308 Win and 260 Rem.

I've owned 2 Nosler Model 48 Custom Sporters. One in 270 WSM and the other in 325WSM.

The Custom Sporter chambered for the 325 WSM is topped with a Leupold 3.5-10 w/ Illuminated Reticle. Started with 180 gr. Ballistic tips. Moved up to 200 gr. Accubonds.

I am blue steel and wood guy but this rifle has become my dark-thirty go-to Hog thumper and all around inclement weather rifle.

Kimber.

I find the stock design of the Nosler rifles repulsive. The grip is simply too tight and bulky.

There ya' go bobnob,
as always, opinions vary.
Prolly ought to see if you can't fondle one of each before you make your decision.

Thanks for those insights gents.

What is the deal on the Nosler action? Are they Howas?

Bobnob,

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_the_nosler_custom_rifle_really_a_howa

and again FWIW,

I'm 5'8" and 190 lbs. I do not have particularly large hands.

I've no problem with the grip of the Custom Sporter, either at the wrist,

or at the fore-end

but, being a rifle slut, I may not be as discriminating as others.

The rifle had several features that appealed to me before I purchased it, and I've not been disappointed.

Not Howas, but IIRC they were designed for Nosler by the guy that designed Howa's action. There would be some similarity. Here's a link that has a picture depicting the differences.

Edit: reviewed again, the picture doesn't compare the Howa vs Nosler, just a Howa vs Howa lightweight.

For some reason some on here are against the Nosler rifles, but they are a trued action, custom barrel, Cerakoted, and shoot well. IMHO I'll echo if you can handle both that would probably make the decision for you.

I'm with my friend GWB, Nosler makes a fine rifle. You can't go wrong with Nosler products, period!

Thanks for the link Joel.

I really mind not at all if the actions are made by Howa. I think they're good strong, potentially accurate actions. At present one of my favourite rifles is a S1 Vanguard and I love the way it is put together.

I can only imagine with much better finish and gunsmithing, any Howa could certainly be the base for a top notch hunting rifle.
