if i found a decent 99 in 300 savage i would start handloading again. i believe this was first rifle to use rotary mag.--1095carbon

A 99 in .250 Savage and .300 Savage... Throw in a some new ones in 7mm-08, .338 Federal, .358 Win. and .376 Steyr (hunting Buff and big Bears with a 99 would be awesome)
Something at least along the quality lines of the Model 14 American fit and finish. I'd buy the .338 Fed tomorrow. Only way it would make it would be with the new calibers. I don't know about long action rounds... maybe? The Browning BLR's with long action receivers just don't feel as good to me as the short action guns.
The new rounds would be the key. I read somewhere that there are so many old .300's around that Savage doesn't think anyone would spend the money it would cost to build a new one.

Here is my one and only model 99, 300EG..for now... Gun show coming up this wekend and I'm hoping to find a nice 303 or 250. The other is my savage BTVS in 17HMR. It would be wonderful if Savage once again out the "99" back into the line-up of rifles. Personally, I think the "99" was way ahead of it's time and the fact that Savage Arms is 3 miles from my home meant that everybody had one when I was growing up. Around here, you can still find untouched "99"'s however,more and more scarce due to collector interest.
Why, I have not yet begun to defile myself.

Wow, replying to a 6 yo thread would get you heckled in most places:-)
I would love to see the 99 make a comeback, in all of the .308-based cartridges and 30-40 Krag.
Unfortunately, the market would be too small for anything but a limited edition.
The 99 is kinda like Rita Hayworth or Ava Gardner in the era of Angelina Jolie. Subtle, classic sex appeal is eternal (now I need a cold shower!) But if it's not raw and in their face constantly, most folks these days will never know.

I have a 250, locked up at my brothers in NZ. We have shot a lot of Red And Sika deer with it, presently using 87gr silver tips as we can not get any other ammo or reloading dies.
I secured a Red/Sika hybrid hind at 623meters last year, my brother has taken two Red stags and a 5 pigs in the last 12mths.

It's been a while since I've been on this post. Don't know if anyone is still keeping track of how many 99's are still around, but I thought I'd update my numbers.
A little info. on how addicting 99's can get:
My first response on this post was Feb. 7, 2009. I had 3 99's then. Two Model E's and a model R.
On March 28, 2009 I posted that I got Two more. Two EG's. A 300 Savage and a 250-3000.
On January 27, 2010 I posted that I had 13 Model 99's.
I went through my gun safes over the weekend and did an inventory. As of today, Nov. 25, 2012 I have 54 Model 99's.
A break-down of my Model 99's:
4 Model A's
2 Model H's
5 Model G's
4 Model E's (old lighweight models)
3 Model K's
4 Model R's
2 Model RS's
12 Model EG's
2 Custom models
5 Model F's
5 Model E's (Economy models)
1 DL
1 75th Aniv. model

I have all the calibers except the 25-35, 32-40, and 38-55.

 .... I know that feeling... I started with one... had it for 6 or 7 years and then ran into another... found this site and next thing I knew, I was hooked... would hate to even count... I am fairly certain that I own or have owned at least 100 Savage 99s.

I used to be the maintainer, but it's WAY out of date. Nice set of rifles, Joe, but I'm like Drew. I hate counting any more. I might speak the number in my sleep or out loud some day in front of the wife, and that wouldn't be good.  Still remember the 2007 Fest where Loggah told us how many he had in his new vault with his wife standing there, and you should have seen the look on her face when she said "HOW Many????". Thinking Rick can unsticky this one.

i think he should keep it up,when i first came on this site 2 years ago i went through the whole thread,gives one a good idea of the scope of this site,

Ok, new here, but I signed up because as a 1895 owner I thought it was my duty to ad to the list!
Savage 1895 .303 sav (obviously), serial# 5096 JM proof marks, oct barrel, rocky mnt front sights, marbles rear, cresent butt... and I wouldn't think twice about s shooting it because of the condition!
Pics... do I have to upload them to another host sight? Or can I post them somehow from my phone?

I know the Savage 99 was (is?) expensive to manufacture, but I do believe there is a market. With modern CNC machining, I can't fathom why Savage hasn't re-introduced the 99. Just look at Winchester and Browning with Japanese runs of famous rifles in the order of 5,000 units.
I favor the 300 Savage, 7X08 Remington, 308 Winchester and the 358 Winchester for re-introduced calibers.

I understand the addiction - I got my first 1899 (84-XXX) two weeks ago, a grampa from a person who wanted to get it out of the closet, and after cleaning it up and studying the art-in-metal that the action is (after reading wealth of this forum), then feeling a 103-year old rifle spring to life with a little oil and tenderness, I have a 1951 Model 99 in 300 Savage in my sights - and I don't think I can resist ..... Just curious, how many purchases confirms an addiction?

i'll pitch in with my 3 1899's, in 32-40, 22 hipower, and 303. all 3 are treasures; the 22 is great fun to shoot, but not so fun to reload; the 32-40 lays 'em in right where she's pointed every time, and the 303, with its 28" barrel, should hit a wee bit harder now that i've got some 190gr roundnoses to hunt with. all 3 been thar, done that, and brung home th' bacon more'n a few times; hope to add a critter er three to each of 'em's bag.
