I currently have a Zeiss 4.5X14X50 scope mounted on a Tikka rifle and seem to be having a problem dialing out the parallax. The left side knob seems to focus OK, meaning that there is one spot where the target seems acceptably sharp, but getting the cross hairs to stay fixed on the target (while moving my eye around) is not working at all for me. There seems to always be some movement (reticle to target) no matter what knob setting I use.
Is there something I'm missing here or could there be a problem with the parallax adjustment and I have to send it back? I've tested this at 100 meters and 400 meters and there seems to be no difference. I should mention that I usually use the scope on maximum power.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd try focusing the reticle and the image with the ocular first. Since you have a side focus/parallax adjustment, try focusing the reticle and the image at 400 yds. with the side focus set on infinity. Then try to reduce parallax at that range ranges. If that woks, try using the side focus/parallax adjustment at shorter ranges. As I understand it, when using the side focus parallax knob, you first run it back to minimum range then go forward until the image is clear and there is no parallax. If all of that fails, send to Zeiss for repair. E

Thanks guys. I think in this case it is operator error (me).
I went out again and redid the tests (50 Meters, 100 meters and 350 meters). I don't have a rifle rest so I took a large card board box and cut two Vs in it to rest the rifle as solidly as I could and aim it at a small rock on the hillside. I then proceeded to again test the rifle by adjusting the left side parallax/focus knob and moving my eye around the eye relief in the ocular lens. This time I took great care to NOT TOUCH the rifle with any part of my body and was able to successfully stabilize any movement in the cross hairs in relation to the target. I did this at 4.5 and 14 power.
I am so relieved I don't have to tear down the rifle and send the scope back!!
Thank you all for responding anyway. It's appreciated!!

Had two 3-9's develop bad parallax problems. Sent the first one back and they sent me a new one. The second one died and now I am waiting for a rebuild. They told me 12 weeks after they already had it for a month. Done with Zeiss...
