I'm thinking its a 99G. Its well into the 99 history, not 1899.

24 inch barrel

Receiver is stamped "SAVAGE 1899 Model" and last Patent date on the barrel is June 1, 1909

Straight grip? or Pistol grip? Checkered wood?
btw - welcome to the 'Fire.

If you remove the forearm there may be a letter stamp on the front of the frame. Is there? What is it?

Hi, great grandfathers 1950's Savage EG 300, aluminum spool, with Williams peep sight. This rifle is very light and responsive. I can still hear grampy's voice when I heft it.

Varies. I like shooters, but after I got a few I started ignoring the "average" rifles and start looking for ones with more condition, or at least ones that are more uncommon. Too many 99's to buy them all (especially if you get a C&R FFL).

Others here aren't interested unless it's a high grade rifle. Yet others just have their one or two that they hunt with.

Different strokes for different folks.

Just landed a 303 takedown. I also have a 30-30 takedown 1920, plus an "ordinary" 1913 or 14 303. Darned old things get to you, don't they?

Here's a couple of mine. Top is a 25-35; bottom is a 22 Savage Hi-Power. Numbers all match up on the guns and they have excellent shiny bores which is good.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I've only been interested in collecting Savages for a couple years now. I really like the 1899 rifles. Some of you guys post pictures of some real beauties on here.

When I first looked through the pictures from the last Savage Fest I fell hard for the 1899s. Here are a couple more; both products of the 24 Hour Campfire. Numbers all match up on these rifles too. I posted pictures of these guns before, but this is the countdown to Savage Fest after all...

This one is a .303 that I really like a lot. I probably put some noticeable carry wear on it in the last two years. Great trigger. The wood is really pretty to my eyes and it would have been neat to have seen it new, but it's also neat to think about the the history that this old girl has seen. Finally got what I believe is the correct rear sight on there...and now it's in the way! I added the older Marble Safety Axe tang sight. I like those.






The 250-3000 is from 1915 I think. Another favorite. A second one of these in really high condition is at the top of my short list.
