I want to buy a CZ in 17 HMR in the American model. I have one of the heavy barreled versions already and an American in 17hm2. I much prefer the balance of the American. I was wondering opinions on the 452 vs. the 455. Why do you prefer one over the other and why? Thanks guys

I have the 452 American HB. Dumped it into a Boyd's Tacticool and prefer the ergo's,but that is subjective. Like all CZ's it's gritty/schitty and sloppy. Broke the OEM rings in short order, but I'm hard on stuff. Was going to sell it with a 12X Leupold Target Scope and both handles for 700 clams, but decided I couldn't,mainly because I hate to sell anything. With DIP 25MOA rail,it will reach the 800yd line easily, when wearing a 10x MQ Fixed [bleep] and that is a pretty good time. The 455 option gets you the ability to drop-in a barrel yourself and that may be something that calls you. Driving a Custom 77/22 Hummer now and prefer it,if for the rotary mag alone. Bang for the buck, forget everything CZ and go Ruger American in Hummer,as you get the rotary mag and re-sprung their triggers blow ALL things CZ away. Hint................(grin)

From all that I have read, the 452 seems more prone to be accurate out of the box with little done to it.
It seems some of the newer 455s are coming out strong but I have read about some accuracy issues.
All this would steer me to stick with the 452/453 models. I have several and they are all excellent shooters.

Thanks for the replies so far. While I don't have the Ruger American I have plenty of 77/22 and 77/17's and too like the Ruger. For this rifle I am purely looking for a CZ in the American configuration. I had heard some of the same stuff on the 455 accuracy problems and don't intend on it being a switch barrel gun so I will probably go with a 452 or 453 if I can find one of them. The 452's are easy to find. I might look into a R American at some point. I prefer no iron sights on it and am think the ones I saw had iron sights on all of them.

I bought a new CZ 455 with the 17 HMR and .22 barrels. I installed the .17 barrel as that's what I wanted.
It's very accurate and has a good trigger.

The RAR smokes the CZ's hard............... Just like anything else, there are good and bad when it comes to factory rifles. I've had a lot of luck with CZ's. I've had mostly good luck with Rugers. Glad to see the RAR is winning some fans. Seems like a nice gun for the money.

Some things are subjective,CZ magazines in their design, capacity, lock up,wells and actuation, along with round count...are a joke. Their triggers are dog schit, even after being Yo'd or PMTJ'd. Knock the sights of a RAR(as obviously pictured),de-horn/re-spring the trigger in 30 seconds and you are there, with 9rds of flush fit ammo and reap extry jingle in the pocket to boot. Hint.................
