I've found load data from Nosler, but nobody else. I've emailed Alliant. Any one here know of good sources?

Thanks.

Yep.

Here are some Accurate Powder Magpro loads from ballistician Johan Loubser.

Ken,
It will take some compression (see LDs %) to make work towards the lighter end of the bullet weight range.
I suggest the following.
Caliber: .280 Remington Ackley Improved.
Barrel length: 24
Powder: Accurate - MAGPRO
Bullet weight: 120 grains
Start load: 62.1 grains (2875- 2975 Fps)
Maximum load: 69.0grains (3200 3300 Fps). LD ca 111%
Bullet weight: 140 grains
Start load: 61.0 grains (2800- 2900 Fps)
Maximum load: 67.0grains (3100 3200 Fps). LD ca 109%
Bullet weight: 150 grains
Start load: 60.0grains (2700- 2800 Fps)
Maximum load: 66.0grains (2975 3075 Fps). LD ca 108%
Bullet weight: 160 grains
Start load: 59.0grains (2600- 2700 Fps)
Maximum load: 65.0grains (2900 3000 Fps). LD ca 107%
Bullet weight: 168 grains
Start load: 57.8grains (2500- 2600 Fps)
Maximum load: 64.2grains (2850 2950 Fps) LD ca 105%.
NOTES:
It important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend.
1. TO ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM START LOAD and develop loads in 2% increments towards the MAXIMUM load.
2. If possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data.

Ammoguide Interactive is a super neat site with a lot of tools and features.

They also list 73 loads for the 280AI but I don't know if you can access the data through this link.

http://ammoguide.com/cgi-bin/ai.cgi?sn=fhMSsRuJgu&catid=306

Next up is Loaddata.com and they used to have a whole bunch more data but here are 8 loads from Handloader #251.

Kinda jumbled but that's how it pasted.

Hodgdon lists 123 max loads for the cartridge and these are probably available online.

www.reloadersnest.com is a decent resource as well.

Thanks, that will keep me busy for a while.

Have you ever fired 280 Rem loads in your AI? I have 100s of them loaded for my mountain rifle. I was considering firing 100 or so of the new brass loads with 140 grain Accubonds. Is this a safe/smart thing to do. Or should I go with the usual fire forming process?

Thanks, again.

You'll be totally fine firing the 280 Loads in your AI.

Never fired a single factory round in this barrel.
I've always used the Nosler 280AI brass for reloads.

Firing those 100 or so rounds will give you 100 perfectly fireformed cases.

Thanks. I understand you can fire standard 280 loads in the AI chamber. The accuracy may not be as good as it could be, but as long as the headspacing is good, it should work safely.

Never had an improved chambering. This is going to be a lot of fun!!

Mine actually shoots it's best groups while fireforming Remington 7mm Express brass but I've owned this gun longer than the .280IMP has been a factory offering so I had to fireform for a decade or so. These days I use Nosler brass mostly and it still shoots well but nothing like the little bugholes that fireforming produces in my gun.

Very interesting. Haven't ever heard of the standard loads shooting better in an Improved chamber.

This may be more fun than I originally thought.

Thanks guys.

When you get done playing around, load up some 140 nab over a charge of vv n-165. 63.3 grns is what i run(do back off and work up). mv of 3200+ from a 24 3/4" tube. groups run in the .3s for 5100.

For accuracy my 280AI's like 61grs of R22 and the 150gr Nos.BT's for about 3050fps out of 24" barrels. When I get serious about killing stuff I use Nosler Partitions.

I am running 60.2grs of H4831 or H4831SC and Sierra 160gr GK right at about 2850 from a 23" bbl. Still haven't run across the 150gr GK to try out. I do have some IMR7828 that I have not tried yet, Vit N165 also looks like a powder to try.

To the OP, you have been given some really great info. The 280 Ackley is not finicky at all to load for. I has also been my experience that factory 280 shoots extremely well in my AI'd version.

IMR 4831, H4831SC and RL22 have all worked very well for me.
I started with the 140 Accubond but has since moved onto Nosler 150 gr. Ballistic Tip and finally the best of them all has been the Hornady 162 AMax and yes the AMax is a killing machine.
