I ordered a new laser boresighter for my Savage model 99 in 300 Savage off ebay. It's a Sight Mark brand. The auction advertised it as being for 300 Savage caliber but when it arrived the package says .22-250. I know some of these work on multiple calibers. Does anyone know if this will work in 300 Savage cal before I open the package?
The SightMark website advertises the .22-250 model as: (Can be used with the following: 22-250 Remington, 22 Standard Varminter, 250/3000 Savage) but does not mention 300 Savage. Any thoughts?

They sent you the wrong one. File a case thru ebay and the seller will have to make it right. Don't let yourself be screwed.

I believe the case measurements except for the neck is the same in 250 and 300'

they use same boresight for 308 and 243 same case different neck

The case dimensions from the base to the shoulder are very similar for the .243 and .308. Not so with the .22-250 in a .300 chamber. I think there might be a little wiggle room to allow the laser beam to be out of center with the bore. You might be able to shim it to keep the base push back to set flat on the bolt face. Just thinking as I type...I have not use one of these units.

That's why I still use an older Bushnell boresighter that mounts on the muzzle. With the three adjustable spuds it will work on anything from a .17 to a .458. Old tech but I've never had it do me wrong. wink

No way is that going to work and be accurate.

I guess it's too complicated to center a scope and fire at 25 yards.

My thoughts also. I have probably mounted over 50 scopes and have never used a bore sight.
Mount the scope, Get on paper at 25 yards. Move to 100 yards and do final adjustment.
99% of the scopes I have mounted are close to center at 25 yards.
I just do what people used to do before all the high class technology was developed.

Using a boresighter eliminates wasting rounds at 25 yards. Why should I fire who knows how many rounds to "get on paper" at 25 yards when I can be sure of hitting the target at 100? Yes, getting on paper at 25 and then moving out to 100 works but why waste money getting there? Just give me the nickle tour. Don't need a 90 minute dissertation.

Some of us don't always have access to a 25 yard range, and anybody who thinks you can just center a scope and be on paper at 100 yards all the time lives in a fantasy world -especially when dealing with after market d&t receivers.

Boresighters are just a tool when needed.

I get that but I've found that shooting is more fun when you hit what you're aiming at. grin
