I have waited to weigh in because I have never shot a black bear (not for lack of trying). But, a few were taken in our camp in Pennsylvania over the years back in the 80's-90's, and all were shot with plain old deer rifles (except for the one goober who shot an 80 pounder with a .300 Weatherby- he wasn't invited back). In fact the biggest of the lot was a 400 pounder killed with one shot from a .243. My god, I still ache from helping to get that bugger up out of the woods 25 years ago!

As I recall most everybody there was using .30-30s, Savages, Amish assault rifles (760s), etc. I was the odd duck (surprised?) who mostly carried a Mannlicher-Schoenauer .257 Roberts back then.

killed a black bear at about 130-140 yds in New Mexico a couple of years ago. Used my 1954 99EG in 300 Svg 180 gr Federal PP. One shot kill. I believe I provided a pic here but I don't know how to locate it...My guide was a little worried that the 300 would do the trick but you guys here gave all the encouragement I needed smile

She's going through menopause, has been for the past several years. She says she living, vajayjay all hurt. Then like a bad cold, she's back.

She's right inline behind the most stupid man in the world, another Oregon member, surprise surprise.

At the going right I think she'll end up on top of Jeff Olsen.
