or barrels by Mark Chanlynn?

I just looked over one of his rifles that a friend has and might want to sell. 375/338 Lapua caliber. McMillan A2 stock with all the bells and whistles, Win 70 classic action modified for the 338 Lapua brass.

What;s the skinny on Mark and his rifles? found some info on the internet about RMRW, but would like first hand stuff....

When he had his shop in the basement of the Big Horn I had him barrel up a 257 Roberts for me. It shot OK nothing special. He used to have a large following around here but I have not heard much in a few years.

I've got a rifle he build from ground up used a Borden stock did a nice job and I've got a 221 build on one of his barrel shoot small bug holes. Since your friend has the rifle what does he say about it be the best source. I know some of the locals around don't like his ar barrel reason cost too much. I think Mark got his start working for Obermeyer and he made a nice 6mm barrel for the Br guys Bruno used his barrels for a long time. Boulder where he had the barrel making business is like a mimi Calif so don't blame him for moving. Dave Sullivan of Westwind Rifles loacted in Erie, Co uses Marks barrel. Mark didn't advertise much most business was from word of mouth and he still has a loyal following I always called him Colorado best kept sercet. I've got a friend with a 264mag rebarrel by Mark and it's a good shooter. Well good luck

Mark Chanlyn and Dave "Sully" Sullivan both apprenticed under Boots Obermeyer. Both are fabulous craftsmen.

I had the privilage of thoroughly wringing-out a rifle that Sullivan built on a Peraguin single-shot action and it was a piece of art. I even took it back to Montana and, after Karen and I had enough antelope killed, we spent a day shooting prairie dogs with the little .222. What a pleasure!

Back to Mark Chanlyn. The guys at Nesika Bay, before Charlie-the-Corporate-Raider, swore by Chanlyn barrels. Nesika's owner, Glen Harrison, who himself was a match-winning benchrester, absolutely thought that Chanlyn was the finest barrel made. Period.

I've never owned a Chanlyn, but the pedigree is as good as it gets. Knitted out of steel wool by virgins. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

David, maybe Mark Dobrenski will chime in... I believe his G33 338-06 has a Chanlyn tube.

Phone is 303-823-6270. I've had a couple of rifles he built and they were both very accurate. A friend swears by his work. If he does the entire rifle, they seem on the heavy side, but do shoot well. I called last week to talk to him about a barrel for a new project and got a recording he was out until- I believe- next week. I highly recommend him.

I registered to respond because I was so shocked that there was any doubt and the record needed to be set straight.

I have a Remington 700 in a .308 barreled and bedded by Mark Chanlynn. 10 shots at 100 yards with factory ammo makes one hole that a quarter can cover.

I've taken Antelope at 300+ yards, piece of cake. Prarie dogs at 150-200 yards all day long. Mark's barrels and work is simply as good as it gets - THE GOLD STANDARD.

In my book, he is the Grand Master of Precision. There is a reason that we are talking about it - when he hasn't had a sales force or advertised for decades - His following is a result of precision perfected. Not too many gunsmiths can "try to hide" with a shop hidden in the hills, and stay in business for long. Most of them have high profile locations and still struggle.

No doubt Mark's barrels and work are top notch but the subject rifle only has Mark's barrel. LOTS can happen during machining!!
