I need to have some experience with the peasant side of life before I enter politics. I thought a Tikka would be a good route to gain some street cred but I can't find these POS anywhere.
Anybody have one? What are the measurements on the mags? Can you touch lands with any of the heavies in .308?

To ensure this new zapper would be ready for rifle opener on 22nd, I dropped an unassigned Leupold 1.75-6x32 German No.1 in Wally Whirl'd Weaver Quadlocks onto its Picatinny 0 MOA factory rail. Here's a few pics after all was put together. [img:left][/img] [img:left][/img]
Hoping to have a Silencerco Harvester 7.62 in place of this thread protector before too long. [img:left][/img]
Only fired 5 rounds of Rem 120 BTs fired so far, but here are shots 3-5. I measured them at .51; jerked one kinda hard. In the swamp I hunt 60 yards is a long poke... After the season will pimp with a scope more suited to longer shooting, a drab dip or spraypaint job, and develop some 100 gr. NBTs to pop vermin with and a heavier Scenar load for a COelk hunt next fall.
Got some Trail Boss to phart around with for just that reason. Cain't hardly wait for a suppressor.
Somebody on here told me to use 11.0gr's of TB and the 190gr Sierra MatchKing. They must have known WTF they were talking about because they shoot like a [bleep] and are quieter than an air gun.
Until that bullet hits somethin'...

Hey slut, whats the 1:8 doing? I'm assuming your shooting 75amax? What speed are you getting, groups, yada,yada.....
I bought it while on the road working and am previously making a move from Montana to Western Oregon so I haven't had time to do any loads for the rifle yet.
I fired some blue box 64 grainers through it and groups were just over an inch. I know the rifle should do way better than that and am eager to get some loads done.
I picked up some Benchmark and H4895 along with Barnes 55 ttsx I plan to use for a deer hunting load.
As I bought the rifle mostly for my 8 year old daughter I also picked up some hornady 55 gr vmax that I intend to use with the H4895 for reduced recoil loads for the kid.
However my 8 year old did offer to loan me her rifle anytime I like. :Grin
I'm assuming to run the 75 AMax I'd need to do a mag mod?
Sorry I don't have more for you but I'll let you know how it all pans out as soon as I get the chance.
Curious bout that 1:8 223 myself. I've seen pieces and parts of threads on them, but it doesn't seem anyone's run the dogschit outta one yet.
Might have to buy one of I get off the 6x45 kick.
Carl Ross had one and I'm pretty sure he and Rutledge shot a couple matches with it. He had it at the Icebreaker two years ago. Fuggin' thing was UBER. For a peasant.

I just listed it for sale again last night, probably because I'm an idiot:
I'm merely an honorary adopted Texan. I'd have to go full Montana-dumb to be fully accepted.
I fail to see how living in Mexico got you an honorary Texan badge. But I'm happy for you regardless.
Travis
Worse... I came to Texas via Southern California. But I'm originally from Kentucky, descended from a long line of trigger pullers, so that inherent Redneckedness makes me acceptable to Texans.
If you're fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.
Curse you for providing a reply that I cannot make fun of.

Thanks Travis,
I'd like to make it to that ice breaker thing you fellas do every year sometime. I doubt I'm anywhere near the shooter most of you fellas are that show up but it'd be a great privilege to get to go.
I'm here to tell ya....Oregon sure isn't Montana!!!

I didn't make it last year either.
Plenty of places to shoot here if you're ever out this way. The wind seems tough to call until you started gettin' drunk. Then it's easy.

Yep calling wind is like golf, the drunker you are the better you are at it.
No, no, no, get it straight. In Finnish, Tikka actually means "woodpecker." So, unless you're shoving woodpeckers (or other varieties) up your butt, the Gerbil reference was specific to Montana residents who habitually molest sheep and small furry animals.
If you're fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.
Since there's no question the CTRs are the ultimate precision peasant rifle, there's another question this thread makes me ponder:
I know there's lotsa Montanans, Tennesseans, Texans and Coloradans on here, but has anyone ever figured out the total members from all the states.
I'm a personally a slob, but altitude, travel routes, and statistics like the above tickle my OCD puzzy.
That would be interesting to know, but first you should explain to the "Montanans" what statistics mean.
Just to be clear that is not aimed at anyone in particular, but in other news I did hear that the Chicago Bears are going to have a mens football team next year.

Travis, I keep thinking about the subsonic 308 loads you was explaining to me. I'm assuming with a can you hardly hear a pop at all. And probably dead nuts accurate!
The more I think about it the more I'm thinking I really need to try this. Probably shoot a coyote right off the back porch and not even wake the neighbors.

Not sure. I've been busy not killing elk. Should be in this week though. Although I'm kinda thinking it won't get fired until after the season.
This is with sub-sonics. I'm waiting on my 22LR can to show up. I'm thinking it will probably be the funnest of all.

The screws and the base itself are epoxied to the receiver. They cannot be removed without application of heat in my experience. Not heating will result in broken off screws or even a bent rail as you try to pry it off. Ask me how I know.
The front screw is positively for a mirage shield. Attempts to screw it in further can also result in a bent rail.
You will also notice that the rail has a pressed in dowel pin that interfaces with the reciever, a nice touch. That rail is screwed, glued and pinned. It's not moving.
Soon as I got everybody's Christmas stuff squared away; can't buy the traditional pre-natal Christmas gift .22 for my first grandchild til I find out if it's a boy or girl next week! She or he arrives in June.
Did you do a trust or the regular forms on your suppressor?
May just get cash together to buy 7.62 & .45 ACP suppressors/adapters/stamps all at once & be done for awhile.
Another option is the LLC. It gives additional flexibility, especially if you ever want to sell. You can sell the LLC and it's assets and avoid the transfer tax. It also allows you to give access to family or friends by naming them in the incorporation documents.
6x SS with suppressed subs sounds like a hoot. As whack-o as Oregon is, they surprisingly allow big game hunting with a suppressed weapon. Been thinking about an integrally suppressed rifle for blacktail.

Yes, in another thread, but if you look carefully below you'll see one of it up a tree few weeks ago. Gonna drag my ailing azz out tomorrow p.m. & try to ventilate a Venado wit it...praying to the Solunars.
1.) Working the bolt hard and fast (the only way to roll) results in the case hitting the turret of the scope and bouncing back inside the ejection port.
2.) Don't let the mag get dirty. At all. Like, not even a little.

I have one coming in 260 and am looking forward to trying it out. Gonna sling some 123's and see what the fuss is all about. Lol
Flave: does the mag not want to feed dirty or what is the issue?

They all seem t suffer from the same accuracy issues Flave. They don't allow for load tinkering at all.... I have thought about one in 308 to go along with the 260. When you tire of yours...look me up.

I was confirming drops with the sub-sonics on Friday as well.
The 1-11" is a little marginal with the 190's. Accuracy was still good to 250yds but you could tell some of them were a bit wobbly when hitting the paper...

My .260 feeds like a champ, with nary an issue. Have only had the issue with spent brass hitting the turret and falling back into the action a couple times, but that was running it slow.
Both the .260s I've had are stupid accurate too. 123 Scenars absolutely hammer outta both guns, same load. I'll have another in .308, and I f they made a 1-8" it'd be a no brainer.
Milk jug stock.... chromoly..... whatever. I paid sub-$850 for mine, and couldn't be happier with the rifle and the performance.

I'm actually not disappointed in the stock. I know a lot of people don't care for them but mine seems pretty solid and it's comfortable to shoot with from the prone.

Don't worry about feed problems. You only to need it as a single shot anyway. One shot with a Tika does it all. Unless of course if it was chambered in .270..

I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.
Little shy of that, about 2.95"... I'm running 123 Scenars at 2.865" and 123 Amax at 2.90".... Same BTO.

The only thing I did to mine was sand the moulding lines off, and took the two spacers out. With SS in lows it sets-up very nicely, and recoil is very manageable, even for new shooters.
Three different shooters at 600.... this was rounds #11-13 outta my CTR....
"Load Development".... Laffin....

WTF?? You shoot from the throne?
I have always dreamed of house where you could hunt during the morning constitutional!!!!!!
Calling here is very tough.. We have several contests early in the fall.. Educates them pretty fast.. Plus we have had mange knock down the population.. Last year was the worst coyote year I have had in maybe 25 years.. Hang in there..
But on another note... This thing truly is ridiculously accurate.
Inch groups @ the 300 last Friday and I'm not exaggerating. Clay pigeons @ the 500 are pretty simple.
And I did no load development at all.
Travis
I see this a lot from Tikkas. I have one in .300 win mag and only time I have shot it thus far is with some loads chucked together in junk brass and it shot 1.5" off my elbows leaning on the bedside of my truck. With good loads and all I am sure it will be stupid accurate even if a little annoying in the recoil dept.
A local shop has 2 ctr's in. One in 308 and one in 260. I really like 6.5's but the 308 is tempting. They are priced at $907. Is that a decent price on one?
How is the ejection problem coming? I run/ran .270, .308 and .223 and cant recall ever having a problem with it hitting windage turrets. Maybe you can just rotate the scope and get the turret out of the way.
Load development is always tough with the Tikkas. This is the .270 doing a ladder test at 200 yards. I had to add .5 mil of windage for each load because the sons of beachs kept going in the same hole and it was impossible to tell what was going on. Oh and the SWFA stuff sucks and DNZ rings are ugly.
U going to Icebreaker so you can see my ghetto rig in person?
Hunt hard, kill clean, waste nothing and offer no apologies.

Rails are flat..... I just removed mine and installed some 16bore modified Talleys and a 3-9x40 Mark AR. Trying to keep the weight down, it's 8.5lbs all up now.
I had no issues feeding from a full mag, but did occasionally have a spent case bounce off the Windage turret and end up back in the ejection port.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
My T3 with a 20moa rail, B&C stock, and Nightforce is only 8lbs 12oz. That different barrel must be pretty hefty...
Rail came right off with a little tap.... pins stayed in the receiver (pulled them easily with a set of pliers). Barrel is quite a but stouter than a T3 lite pipe.... it's about like a light Palma contour.
A 8.5-9lb super-accurate 6.5mm rifle is never a bad thing....
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
I'm just starting with mine. Haven't had any ejection issues as of yet. I'm thinking of going with a 20moa rail though. Give myself more room to twist.

I had 15+ MILs left on the Super Chicken with the factory rail.... that's like 1500 yards with the .260. I can see how the .308 guys could need that extra 20 MOA though.... 15 MILs only gets the .308 to about 450 yards.... Laffin.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
My T3 with a 20moa rail, B&C stock, and Nightforce is only 8lbs 12oz. That different barrel must be pretty hefty...
Here's a pic of the barrels side by side... T3 Lite on the left, CTR on the right.... lot more meat on the CTR bone.
16bore Talleys and a 3-9x40 Leupold Mark AR.... slung about as low as you can go.... not even enough clearance for a B&C cap, but it's fast handling and hammered out to 700 today in some 10-15mph winds. At 8.5lbs, and 40" OAL.... running 123 Scenars at 2850 (via 41/4064 or 44.5/4350) sub-MOA all day every day... it will see heavy workload this fall.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
Damn, that is low. You could try shaving down the bottom portion of the cap, but will have to wrap tape around it to keep it on. Aint pretty, but functional. I had to do it on a muzzle loader.

That looks like a near perfect pronghorn rig IMO. Well done.
Pointer.... there were 30-40 pronghorn about 90* to the right of that picture.... they hung out all day and watched us shoot. Pretty funny when they're well inside the range of the frequent hits on steel.
Darren... Stainless would be cool.... but this one has already seen 500+ rounds in 4 months, and will see another 100+ this weekend. Even my parents and their friends wanna go shoot it... so it's grandparents day at the 'range' tomorrow.... should be fun.
Point is.... for under $900, I got a fairly light, compact rifle that fhugkin hammers like a $2k gun. So, I can shoot the crap out of it... and re-barrel it... and still be in it less dough than a Rem platformed custom rifle, including about 1500 rounds (at $.50/ea). Blues actions have never bothered me much... and I don't plan on this blued pipe living long enough to have weather related corrosion issues.
Another cool thing about thing, is the 2.95" magazine... and 'long' action length. It's going to be an awesome platform for a stainless 20" barreled .284 Win. when the factory .260 pipe is toast.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
I ended up trying a new load in my Montana and it differs from the load I was using in the Tikka. I want to be able to pump them all out on the progressive so I tested it in the CTR yesterday.
10 shots about as fast as I could get settled and pull the trigger. Pulled bullets. Three different brands of brass. 15-20mph winds @ 110yds. That's a 1 1/2" dot.

The combination of low rings and that huge f'n windage knob on the SS cause ejection issues on a lot of actions.... not just the Tikka.
You could move stuff around.... or, grab a six-pack and watch 'Sniper'. Pay attention to Tom Berringer and how he catches the brass as he opens the action. It's a simple solution... you get half drunk.... and you get to watch Billy Zane shoot a dude from a moving helicopter with a Bassoon.

I had the same issue with my CTR and the SS 3-15 in Seekins lows. I have since swapped it for the Bushy LRHS, problem solved. I'd like to put the SS back on the CTR if I could make it work (without the Berringer trick I mean), any chance going to mediums (.97 vs. .82" on the lows) would solve this issue you think? I don't have any on hand but might order a set if it's likely to work.
Ok, I shot a buddy's CTR and love it. My thought is to sell my T3 in 7-08 to fund a CTR in 308. The problem is prices jump around quite a bit. Does anyone know who has the best prices on the non stainless CTR's? I know 260 does a bit more, but I already have a 280AI for distance and am sitting on quite a bit of 308. I am also thinking that with at limbsaver and a muzzlebrake, my teenage daughter could shoot it with no issue.
I know this is an older thread, but y'all seem to know quite a bit more than me on this.
I bought a new stainless Ctr 308 for about $600 on a clearance. I am having some ejection issues but I have low rings and a 10x SS on it. I've only had it out once and it did ok with 155 scenars over varget but I think it can do better.
Bumping this to pick the brains of ctr owners out there. I'm about to buy a 6.5 creedmoor ctr and was planning on putting a 6x swfa SS on it. Does anybody know if there is still an ejection issue with the t3x and the SS windage knob?
Also, are the 5 round ctr magazines shorter than the 10 round ones or are they just 10s that are blocked off?
The “ejection” issue with the T3 is no different than any other rifle I’ve run a SS on. Sometimes brass bounces off that big knob and ends up back in the open action. I’ve had it happen with Rems and Rugers too.
