I saw an 1895 sell on the Campfire a few weeks ago and it got me thinking of expanding my collection of Winchesters. I have not been much of a fan of 1895's, but a 26 inch tapered octagon barrel in 40-72 does have my interest.

I looked on the gun sites and found this beauty, the bore is as good as the outside. I am putting together some loads to give it a try this weekend...

Awesome '95. I like the Lyman receiver sight.

I hope to be shooting it this weekend. It won't take long to run through 7 rounds...

That is sure a nice Winchester Shrapnel, it will be right at home with all your other nice rifles!

Shrapnel

Nice 1895. The octagon black powder caliber guns aren't so common in that kind of shape. The receiver sight is a great bonus. Good luck shooting the rifle.

Shrapnel, thats a beauty! The .405 I had inbound went outbound back to the seller. Looked nice at arms length, but had it been a car it woulda had a salvage title.

That '95 is indeed a beauty! I've never owned a '95, but if I had a shot at that one I'd change that situation in a heartbeat.

That sux. Some people don't have a problem over-selling their stuff. This one came in just as it was described and pictured...

Ain't that the truth. There's an auction on Gunbroker for a Model 65 Win. .218 Bee that is in truth a rebuilt 1892 with a M65 barrel, heavily buffed, sanded and reblued. The barrel has lines where it spun in the vice and is a pleasing shade of purple. The seller claims it was refurbished by Winchester and people have bid it up past 2K! Moral, buy the gun not the story. I have to relearn that time to time.
Congrats on your find, hope to hear more about it.

Shrap, that is a fine looking rifle. Love that receiver sight, too! Always nice to see somebody getting what they were paying for, instead of a trumped up B.S.

Christmas is year round for me. I bought 3 rifles just this past 2 weeks. I got a Sako H&R Ultra in 22-250 and a Sako Pre-Garcia Bofors 222 mag with a Mannlicher stock. The 22-250 is here, I am still waiting on the 222 mag...

A deluxe model with a 36 inch barrel... that is just unbelievably rare! And Dick got that Bullard .50-115 too! I am green with envy.

Also, Shrapnel - this is a very fine 1895 as well and I am envious. You're another guy that drives me crazy - that Burgess two-barrel .44/40 set (wrist action pump), the .45/60 Whitney-Kennedy SRC, the Colt Lightning .44/40..., your .44/40 Whitney-Kennedy... man does envy burn like a SOB.

A Flatside! Yikes. I saw a Flatside advertised at the same time as this, but not as nice and the bore was dark.

Then a 36 inch takedown! Holy smokes, with just 2 rifles you have a safe full of rare guns. I would really like to see them if you get a chance to show them...

Didn't you have something to do with a Burgess website, or was that someone else?

There's some NOS .40-72 Bertram brass on Gunbroker if you need it.

Thanks for the help, I found some Jamison brass at Graf for $28.00/box. Painful but still a better price...
