An old family friend used say that. I think about it every year at this time.

And that's the truth I know as well.
Sometimes, the air you 'let in'matters less than the air you 'let out'.

Except days are longer in the Summer and shorter in the Winter.
Every day on this side of the ground is a win.

This being post-winter solstice... the days (as in daylight hours) get longer until the summer solstice.
So yes, as the days get longer it does get colder in the northern hemisphere, up to a point where it begins to warm up. The supposed 'warming' we should feel as the days get longer takes about 30 days to start (if I remember my HS physics class correctly). The changing temperature of the earth's surface lags about 30 days behind the changing of length of daylight.

It's about like this:
"Do you puff peters?"
"Hell no!"
"NAZI!!!"

The changing temperature of the earth's surface lags about 30 days behind the changing of length of daylight. And that depends how far north you are. I've always figured things can be real nasty through February up here - generally more so than before the solstice. March is the month when the sun finally starts to affect dark objects and some melting can be seen. I love March weather; you still see deep cold at night but wonderfully comfortable days quite often.

It takes a while for the suns energy to reach the earth. The shortest days are in December, but the coldest month is usually January. The longest days are in June, but the hottest month is usually July.
Aside from the dreariness due to all the overcast skies, we have almost no snow on the ground (had a dusting this morning, that is it) which means 2 months of "winter" are almost behind us. The cold doesn't bother me so much, I am just hoping that my snowblower turns to a pile of rust due to a lack of use.

it's 73F here right now. A little overcast, we had a thunder storm last night, but it's shorts and shirt sleeves for me.

December and January have identical temperatures here, February is when you notice the heat in the sun, July and August also have identical temperatures.

Our high is supposed to be about 60 tomorrow. I'll take every one of those days I can get through early March.
