Question:

For the money what is the best light weight stock?
What will it way?

I know B&C are a decent stock but that thick wrist is not to my liking. Had a KS Remington years ago, should have kept it, but it seems like the McMillan on that fit me pretty well.

Besides weight, is there an advantage to say a Mcmillan or something similiar?

Is there enough meat on a standard sporter remington barrel to flute enough off to save some weight?

I'm all about light rifles. But, it'll cost you. The best investment would be a TI stock. They are great. A quality lightweight stock will weigh 'twixt 13-24 ounces.

MPI mountain rifle stock with thier ultra light upgrade make about the lightest stocks out there. The wildcat composits lightwieght is just a touch lighter than a basner but otherwise very similar. If you want ultimate light weight I would look at the MPI.

North 40 Outfitters (formerly Big R) in sandpoint had the new mountain rifle in stainless with the BC stock for $753 this fall. The shop here in CDA is expanding and will have firearms soon. If you don't like the BC stock I can probably help you get into a High Tech Specialties blank since you're somewhat local.

Light doesn�t come cheap! its amazing how expensive those last few ounces cost to shed.

The wildcat composites are quite a bit cheaper and finish out around 20 ounces.

Probably just be cheaper for me to lose a few lbs and not worry about the rifle

Shop around and compare weights of scopes.This can be a good way to shed a few ounces without altering your rifle.

Sub 5 pounds, scoped and with open sights. Rem model 7 in 338 federal.

It doesn�t get much lighter than this. Too bad you can�t get the lone wolf stocks anymore but the MPI is pretty close in weight.



I�ve been working on a long action light weight for a couple years now, with wildcat composites stock remington 700 trimmed down and 24� pac nore featherweight barrel in 277 1-8 twist. ITs going to be a lightweight 270 win (gasp) hoping to run 150 LRAB . Gonna top it with a leupy 6x36 if I can get custom shop to put CDS turret on one. Should make a dandy lightweight hunting rifle. Hopefully under 6 pounds scoped.

You could buy a Rem stainless fluted from the factory, and be a bit ahead of the game there already.

Otherwise, just shop around used until you find an older KS model.

--Trim the barrel 2" with no fluting
--Install Gre-Tan aluminum bolt shroud and fluted steel pin
--Install Rifle Basix trigger with aluminum shrouding
--Install a lighter recoil pad
