I recently bought a Model 700 in a 350 Rem Mag from here on the 'fire and I should be picking it up tonight. I have brass and dies already and ordered some 225 grain nosler partitions to load in it. I have been researching powders and primers but need some real world advice. Do I need magnum primers for the 350 or will standard large rifle primers be sufficient? I see several powders mentioned in other articles. The most common are RL-15, W748, H4895, Varget, TAC, and AA2015. Of all of these, Varget is the only one I currently have on hand. With the 225 grain partition what is the go to powder for the 350?

I load for the 350 in an Encore and in a Model 600. My load for the Encore is a COL of 3.00" Remington 9 1/2 primer, 66 Grns of RL-17 with a 225 Grn Sierra Gameking. For the 600 the COL is 2.80 Remington 9 1/2 primer, 62 Grns of W-748 with the 200 Grn Hornady FTX. Both of these are extremely accurate out of my rifles. CAUTION these are close to Max loads in my rifles. As always start low and work up.

In the .35 Whelen, Re15 and Varget run about neck and neck shooting 225s. Some say Re15 is THE powder for the Whelen, but I've found Varget to be just as good. The .350 Mag case capacity is nearly the same as the Whelen case capacity, so I'd start with one or the other.

La Rebel - What is your on game experience with the FTX bullets at 350 velocities? I have read that they were not designed for the speeds of the 350/35 Whelen and did not perform well. The nosler book I have does not list varget or RL-15 in any of the 350 loads. I will have to check the 35 Whelen loads to see if they mention it there.

I just did a quick check and it looks like with the same powders the 350 maxes out with about 2 grains less powder than the 35 Whelen.

I like Hornady 250 grain Spire points with H4895. (the IMR4895 did not shoot well at all!) The Speer 250 Grain SP shoot as accurate as the Hornady's, but I've never tried them on game. Also the Nosler Partition shoot as well, but I don't think that premium bullets are needed. The Hornady's have good expansion and deep penetration.

I prefer classic.

I don't know what you want to shoot with it. I use the .358" 200gr. Hornady Spire Point/IMR4320/WLR primers. I've forgotten the charge weight, but it is about 1.0 to 1.5 gr. below the Hornady manual max., because that was most accurate. I get 2650 fps from a 24" barrel. You mention 225 gr. Partitions, so maybe you are planning on something larger than deer/black bear.

I will be using it mainly for deer/black bear but figured the 225 grain partition was a good compromise between the lighter 200 grain and the heavier 250 grain. I got a good price on the bullets which made them about the same price as the hornady and sierra bullets so I figured it was a no brainer to get the partitions. I am hoping to get ~2600+ fps or so from the 20" barrel with the 225's.

My Model 600 shoots 225 Partitions into just over an inch with:
58 gn TAC - 2570 fps
56 gn 8208 - 2530 fps
62 gn R 15 - 2580 fps
Varget should be very similar to R 15.
All with Federal 210 primers.
I would advise against increasing the above loads.
As always start with 5 gn less powder.

Reloader17 CCI 250. 1" groups at 2650 out of an encore. Accuracy load for me was at 64 grains 3.0 coal. Only downside to the partition is the price.

I bought some W748 to try in my gun. I now need some recommendations for primers. I have heard I should use magnum primers for ball powder and large rifle primers for stick powder. Since W748 is ball powder I am assuming I should go with the magnum primers. Anyone have any real world results as to which primer will be more reliable/accurate?

Nice round! I load 310gr Woodleigh bullets using W748, CCI 250 primers and Nosler brass at 2350 fps MV. Mine was built on a long action Zastava Z98 so I can seat this bullet without taking up case capacity. I should give a slower burning powder a try (H4350??) since I have the extra case capacity.

I believe the Nosler website has load data for the 350 RM and their 250gr bullet using W748.

I see several powders mentioned in other articles. The most common are RL-15, W748, H4895, Varget, TAC, and AA2015. Of all of these, Varget is the only one I currently have on hand. With the 225 grain partition what is the go to powder for the 350?

Chalk me up for magnum primers in all the .350 loads I use...........

In my 20" Lilja I shoot a 200 TSX or TTSX with 64gr of Ramshot TAC @2950. For 225 Accubonds I shoot 62gr of Ramshot TAC @2800fps...Both loads are safe in my rifle but "hot" so back off 1.5gr and work up! I'd do the same with the Partitions...

My rifle is more accurate (big .358" bugholes!) with 200gr TSX/TTSX's and 59gr of Benchmark @2850......but in a 400 yd rifle, I figure I'd rather have more close range thump with the TAC...

I have a 1969 Model Remington 700BDL .350 Rem Mag with 24''bbl. I did a lot of testing with it around 15 years ago and the two powders which gave the best velocity for me back then was either IMR4320 or IMR4895. Max loads of both powders produced around 2730fps.

As much as I'd like it to be, it's no longer 15yrs ago...Pick up some TAC or Benchmark and wake that b+tch up!

CCI-250 with W-748 works for me. This in regards to what primer to use with the this ball powder, not what powder to use in the 350 RM.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I appreciate it. I do also have some Benchmark at home so between that and the W-748 should have a few good powder options to start. Looks like magnum primers are the way to go as well.
