I NEVER gave serious crap to the LEO in my hometown of 400 when i was a teen. The town cop doubled as our utilities troubleshooter, the county sheriff lived next door and kept his squad in our garage, his deputy lived across the street.

Besides, Ivan (the sheriff) had this section of overgrown soil-bank land that he let me pheasant hunt on. Just me, my brother, and our best 2 friends, also brothers. I hunted deer with the dep. on his family farm.

Ya gotta be pretty dum to crap in your cap......

Late one evening MANY years ago, I was following some buddies to a "Kips" Big Boy restaurant. I'm behind them at a red light and a car is next to them. After the light turns green the car beside them cuts me off and pulls in behind my buddies. Police lights from an unmarked police car lit up the night. The guys pull over and I pulled in behind the unmarked police car.

Huge old cowboy gets out, toothpick in the corner of his mouth, pulls the guys out and says: "Have to admit, first time I've ever arrested a..., BUGGER FLICKER". We all fell on the ground laffin. Guy behind the driver was picking his nose when the car pulled up beside at the light, the rear passenger reached out the window and flicked his finger like he was flipping a cigarette at the driver. Low and behold, the guy was a Texas Ranger!

We ALL laughed so hard we cried!

I don't know what they wanted me to do, but they should be smart enough to see the grey hair and wrinkles on a cop if they expect a different response.

I usually tell them, "Well Johnny Ringo! I'm your huckleberry!"
Once they even got it. Those guys left worried.

Come to think of it, this early exposure to LEO's likely warped me for life . Those bastds!

At 12 or 14, Ivan told me what all black (I am not) or not youths should know: if stopped by a cop keep your hands in sight, don't make any sudden movements, be cooperative. Been pretty good advice, serving me well over the 50 plus years since.

We all know we are gonna lie to the cop..... smile

The year was 1956. I had my dad's '53 Ford up to about eighty MPH when I noticed the NY State Police car behind me so I pulled over. Walt Burmaster was 6'8" and built like a tank. I was a 5'7" highschool kid. He yanked open the door, reached in and grabbed me by the arm and unceremoniously lifted me out of the car. He through me against the side, slapped my face so hard that my knees buckled and yelled, "I DONT EVER, EVER WANT TO BE PICKIN YOUR DEAD BODY OUT OF THE DITCH. SLOW THAT THING DOWN BECAUSE I MIGHT HURT YOU THE NEXT TIME! GOT IT?" Grabbed me under the arms, threw me into the car, slammed the door, left.

I both respected and feared him. Liked him too.

Damn close...no tinted glass, and orange reflective tape on the bumpers. People like me are where retired patrol cars go to die.

Nah...these guys were in there mid-twenties/early thirties, but that doesn't mean much with a 70 IQ.

I can understand that. Those are the kind of cops I miss.

Ours get sold at auctions. Those who buy them look like they spent a lot of time in the backseat. Musta liked the way they rode. wink

Lots of those cops left. But if you say something like that now you get sued and lose everything you have, so you enforce traffic laws instead
