Green Bay had one a couple of weeks ago...

Just people overthinking a simple game and that can happen.

GB had several bad breaks and one bonehead not doing his job. They didn't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory because the coach made the worst call in the history of the game.

There is a HUGE difference in preparedness between BB and PC. There isn't much BB hasn't seen and will prepare the team for as much.

Goal line offense is third down offense?

Um, yeah.

Lynch could carry half the pats defense on his back for two yards.

You run Lynch 3 times.

If he don't get in, I don't think anybody would cry that they should have tried a pass up the middle. grin

I'd say 99% of the football watching world would not bet the Pats stopping Lynch short of scoring on 3 attempts from the 1 YL.

He11, at one point Bellichick seemed to be contemplating letting them score to save time and get brady the ball back. I was thinking it myself, but decided at the moment I'd not have done it.

If anything else, you spread the field and have Wilson roll out. Giving him the option to run or pass to an isolated receiver being covered 1 on 1 in the corner. Or something like Brady's last TD pass tp Edelman. Low risk. It is safer than even a fade, and he can always throw it away or step out. That said, I would have ran 99/100 times.

Basically, you do just about anything other than what they did.

It was an epically bad call. And you don't have to a football coach to see that.....

"Fact is"???

I'm not disagreeing with the supposition that the percentage play call was to let Lynch run the ball... but Seattle wasn't running the ball with impunity in the 4th quarter, and their 3rd down efficiency was only 3/10 for the whole game (and a goal line offense is, essentially a 3rd down offense).

Weren't no "fact is".

They weren't running with impunity? What game did you watch?

You have the ball less than 5 feet away from the win, timeouts, and you're averaging 5.6 yards PER CARRY.

Run. The. Ball.

But it's a third down offense...

Yer right, armchair RB's and wideouts are calling it bad too. Even guys who never played football are experts today.

And yer right again, I don't care, and it doesn't matter.

But I get quite a kick out of watchin' y'all's heads spin in circles while you spew green stuff, tho...

I could have cared less who won that football game, but anyone who ever played a down of football, and even the dallas cowboy cheerleaders know that if you have less than 60 seconds left in a ball game, and you have the ball on the plus 2 yard line, you don't pass.

Jeez. You gonna drag out that old quote that George S. Halas uttered nearly a century ago?

That's some up-to-date football wisdom there, bro!!

grin

That trendy, newfangled football wisdom has got OkOk dangling from this ceiling fan right about now.

Seriously though, I'll admit to tyrannosaurus inclinations, where football is concerned.

wink

Halas wisdom is timeless..... whistle

Y'all's a buncha dinosaurs... I played safety, and there's a whole buncha other possible outcomes from a pass play:

4. Receiver will blow a snot-bubble while coughing up the ball.
5. Receiver will pee blood for a week after coughing up the ball.
6. Receiver will leave the game after coughing up the ball.

... I could go on...

grin

Pesonally, I think every time a coach kicks a field goal on the six inch line or throws a fricken slant pass, its the worst call in the history of the game, whether there's 40 seconds or its the first drive.

Its a simple game, but you have to put it on the players, always.

Four things can happen when you run the ball. Three of them are bad.

1. Gain
2. No Gain (same as incompletion)
3. Loss
4. Fumble

When everyone and their brother in the whole damn stadium is expecting one thing and you do the opposite is not stupid football. You are called a genius when it works. And it has worked many, many times.

If the Pats had stopped Lynch on the next two downs, all the MM quarterbacks would be screaming that he should have called for a pass...

It was still a great game.

I get a kick out of the whole Super Bowl crap; teams play all year with ninny rules and enforcement, but the last two Super Bowls they just let them play.

I haven't seen anything today, but I'd bet Wilson checked out of the run.

He looked pretty "green" after the interception....

He didn't check out, that was the play call. Bevell and Carol do that stupid crap on the goal line frequently, it usually results in an incompletion.

The way I look at it:

If team can't get coach 1 friggin' yard by running the ball to win the game, they deserve to lose and the coach cannot be blamed.

But if coach doesn't have the confidence in them to do so in said manner, coach deserves to lose, and can be blamed.

In short, Old Petey screwed the pooch big time IMO....

You don't need to do the unexpected to win the game in that situation. Just execute.

Gotcha. Haven't been watching any tube.

If you have to pass, a z-out is a 100x's better route with three downs...
