Hey Guys! I'm looking to have a rifle built. I want to do a christensen carbon fiber barrel on a stainless #1 action. My local gunsmith doesn't know how to do this (doesn't know how to attach front screws on quarter rib) and Christensen doesn't work with #1's. Does anybody know a gunsmith that will do this job? Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it.

I am curious to know how you are planning to work the balance. I'm guessing you are going to use a synthetic stock? Let us know how it comes out. Good Luck. AJD
There is no accounting for taste. Experience is a great thing as long as one survives it. Generally, there ain't a lot that separates the two however, Barely making it is a whole lot more satisfying than barely not making it.

It will probably turn out to be a fine rifle, Matt. The #1 is one of the rifles that is beautiful in its classic form. It's just a matter of taste.

Glue the rib on with epoxy. It will never move.

Not my taste either but to each his own. Maybe if the No. 1 being sacfificed has an AH fore end he'll sell it to me.

Melding of classic and modern... I have 11 #1's that are all shooters and some are lightly custom, love them all, just looking to do something different... If I could find a barrel I'm half tempted to do it myself.

I saw one like you are considering in Ron Peterson's gun shop in Albuquerque, NM several years ago. I don't remember how the rib was attached.

You could glue it and use a little heat to melt the glue when you find out that you don't care for the barrel and remove it.

Matt, Very Nice !! I would also say it looks like there is metal to use for the back screw, and a good epoxy for the front should work. The rifle shown in the top picture would be very sharp. What caliber and use are you trying to fill? Interested minds want to know. Mitch

just an ounce over 6 pounds without the scope. Took it to the range the other day and it's a one hole gun!

Very nice rig. I have been thinking about building a lightweight #1 for my father. Nice to see someone else accomplish the task.

This is a very old thread, I now have 4 carbon barreled No.1's, 300wsm, 7mm Stw, 358 STA, and a suppressed 300 Blackout for the vermin around the house...

Ya... I have a custom one in 270 WSM though it's not carbon fiber, it's a lightweight contour fluted barrel...

I have had the bases converted to rails, the original base/ring combo always appeared a tad “flimsy” and these rifles sometimes end up in a scabbard on a saddle. My shank diameters were the same as the good ol NEF Handi Rifle so I got some suitable bases and the smith fit them for me. I’m using Zeiss V4 4-24 and Sig Whiskey 5 5-25 so yes they are bigger scopes. Incidentally they worked just fine in the old base setup.

I prefer nice wood on No 1s but that looks pretty cool right there.

If a carbon wrapped barrel will work on a #1, I wonder if you could make an Encore barrel out of a CG blank. How cool would that be?????????????

I am not comparing anything. I just think that an Encore with a short carbon wrapped barrel would make a really good truck gun for those super quick shots at coyotes.

i tried a Encore one winter for coyotes ,here`s what i decided about a Encore slower to load than my Ruger #1 and my Ruger #1 is more accurate too. i now use a Ruger #1 custom Brux barrel 220 Swift with a 26 inch barrel i kill critters at 500 yards +.its my truck rifle with a Nightforce Scope , i wish you good luck and enjoy your Encore !
