Muledeer,

Now please share with us the downrange velocity and energy figures to accompany the trajectories of BCs .350 and .500. Thank you.

Mr. Deer,
I must have been asleep at the switch. What design changes were made to the Grand Slams? I don't remember reading anything about that.

Speers parent company is ATK and they are doing very well financially. Speer is only a tiny component of what they do on the international level and they appear to be very content to have the LE market in a headlock with the golddot series of ammo. The Federal Fusion is basicly a rifle version of the golddot in concept anf I believe Federal was also taken over by ATK several years ago. The ATK list of holdings in the outdoor segment is incredible but they have allowed most to operate under the original names for brand recognition.

I think the best rifle bullet Speer ever put out was the Deepshok and I still hoard my last couple hundred for culling pigs. The .308/165 Deepshok was the most impressive bullet I have ever used at .308 speeds. The fact that is was only $15 per hundred made it even better. Speer stated they had problems manufacturing the bullet but I suspect that other members of the ATK family did not like the fact that a cheapo bullet was performing as well as the premium stuff like the trophy bonded at 1/5 the cost.

Speer lost me as a customer when they dropped the deep shok bullet and changed the original grand slam. Both were fine projectiles I loved those things as did most of my rifles.... and the critters I shot with them hated it. I took animals from deer to moose with it out of a .300 winny and performance was always excellent from both designs. I sure do miss them.

I think you are right about why they were dropped(the deep shoks)...too much to compete with ATKs other bullet makers for thier premiums.

Speer makes the best cup and core bullet for the 30-30 that can be found as far as my guns can tell. The jacketed handgun bullets are as good as they get as well.
I tried some of the grandslams when they first come out, my rifle didn't care for them much and the cost was about like Nosler partitions so I didn't pursue them any further. What really turned me off on Speer (except for 30-30 and the occasional jacketed handgun bulllet) was in about 1975 I wrote them and asked if they thought they might sometime offer the shot capsuls for loading 45 Colt. The cheap sob's wrote me back on the same sheet of paper and said they had no intention of bring out anything for a cartridge they fully expected to be obsolete in a couple of years.
Well it was just a few years and all of a sudden there they are shot capsuls and loaded ammo for an obsolete cartridge they had no further interest in.

the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

should send them the letter back with your hand written "told ya so!" on it!

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

I saved a stamp and gave them a ring about 10yrs ago. You must have worn them down 'cause they listened to me.

Any chance you could help me get Remington to start selling their .338 boolits in bulk. The cheap bastids keep telling me that there's no interest in them--------------like there IS for the .303 and the 8mm, but not the .338! I call about every 6 months so they won't recognize my voice, but hopefully think there are several of "us".
