I met Pete last week on a completely social visit. I have not met a bad guy from this site yet, and have met dozens. Most were on hunts but I have met up with quite a few in completly social circumstances.
Pete was actually how I pictured him, unusual because nobody looks like what you think they do when you meet them. He is a good guy, and we had a really nice visit. We are lucky to have the "caliber" of folks visiting this site that we do!
If you get a chance to visit with posters, by all means do it. All of the folks I have met from here have been decent upstanding guys.jj

I'll second that suggestion. I've met many guys from this and other sites and not met a bad one yet. (I guess if there is an oddball in the group, it is probably me!)
Pumpgun is coming for his second visit in a year in a couple of weeks and hope to get together with a couple of other posters this year and next spring.
Take the opportunity when it arises and meet a few of these guys who you talk to just about every day. Many of them are just the kind of guys they seem on the board, and from my experiences anyway, have lots in common with many of us. That means there usually isn't too much of that uncomfortable time looking for things to talk about. I always find that the visits end WAYYY too soon! As Nike says- JUST DO IT! So Jim, was I anything like what you'd pictured? My winter coat, aka long beard is history, so you might not recognize me.
Pete is a good guy, I've been fortunate to meet a good portion of the Alaskan posters, and they've all been great guys, and we try and get together for cofee or lunch once in awhile, or better yet, a range session. Intersting mix of folks as well, a drafter, real estate agent, airplane mechanic, ivory carver, air force seargent, oil field worker, state gov worker, retired guy and an attorney.
My regular shooting buddy, and general bad influence was met on the net, and we see eachother at the range about once a week.
I just wish I could meet with more of the folks, I was bummed I didn't make it over to John Ricks shop when I was down that way, but JJ was too busy talking me ear off, well, mainly it was my aversion to traffic after having lived in CA for ~30 years.

Yes I had the occasion to drop by, on my way to an airshow, and visit JJ, at his home. He lives in a beautiful place. I got the cougar story first hand. JJ and I shot the **it for 2-3 hours and the time quickly passed. In conclusion, JJ is smarter than me but I'm better looking .pak

I'll agree that every one I have met from here and other sites has been 100% good folks. I haven't met anyone I haven't liked. I'm finally getting to go on my first hunt since moving to Texas, thanks to "bowhunter". He invited me to go on a hog hunt with him very soon. As far as who is smarter or better looking, I have met Pete but not JJ so will hold my tongue for now.(hehe) I strongly encourage everyone to meet their neighbors from here and even those we can when we travel. I'm still traumatized that I traveled all that way and didn't get to meet with 458 Lott and John Calhoun.(grin)

Sorry I didn't make it over the the Peanut Farm that day, I'd taken a long lunch, and was behind at work, as usual. I'm sure you would have been underwelmed at meeting me

I've met Pete and Paul in los Anchorage last year. Both are fine folks.
Pete didn't look like what I had imagined him to look like. He one of the nicest folks I've met. He's got 'gun' knowledge, yet seems to be quiet about it.
Paul, at the time, since he's sans beard now, looked like the classic Alaskan guide. Big and tough, big beard, flannel shirt, that stare that looks he's still looking at a distant animal... ~~~Suluuq

So far I have met 2 people from this board and both of them are great guys Sheister and MulieStalker. I greatly enjoyed visiting with both of them. And I am looking forward to visiting with Sheister again this year. BTW Sheister are we going back to the factory stores in Lincoln City again again this year? I am sure your wife would love a nice bracelet to go with the ring you got her last year. LOL. tom

Had a get-togeather 3yrs. ago with two others from the coffee shop. Been meeting each year now in Crane Oregon shooting sage rats. This last year seven of us met and had a blast. Personally I wouldn't have a problem meeting anyone from the hunting boards.

I'm new to these forums so I haven't met anyone yet. But if you find yourself at the airport in Anchorage, let me know and I'll buy ya a cup.

From this board I've personally met Greenhorn, Big Stick, Muley Stalker, and Flinch. The only draw back...the time together was too short. Time flies when you are having fun and with people that enjoy the same things you do. Btw, they were all great guys to hunt or hang our with. There are still a number of you I'd really like to meet one of these days...hopefully while hunting.

Alaskassan, I've been meaning to send you an e-mail. Anyhow, I'll see if I can get the cyber hunting folks (or virtual friends as my wife refers to them) together for lunch or something. Friday range sessions during lunch work well for some of us, but I kinda get bummed, as I don't get much shooting in. Anyhow, I can't get my e-mail until I get back to town, will plan on getting something together. What type of food do you like?

I'm hoping to get out next week, I'll drop you a line. Unfortunately I don't have dies yet for the 480, and my big toys are still in the works. I'll load some cast up in the whelen, pretty fun w/ the plinker loads.
PS, I'm a few bisquits over 200, and like bout everything but brussel sprouts.

I've been fortunate to meet a few of you too. Big Sky, Pumpgun and Joe Cabela. All great people.
My only complaint would be Big Sky keeping me up until 3 or 4 in the morning -- twice! All his fault, of course (grin)!

I've had the great pleasure of meeting and hunting with Toons-Hubby. Great guy to spend a week with. Very intelligent, funny, and serious about hunting (not too serious though). He really wanted to connect with a Black bear, and I wasn't able to find him one. Haven't seen him around here lately, and that's a shame.
I've also met Ol' Grouch. We went shooting here locally. Also a nice guy, with a very lightweight Mauser, chambered in something like 411KDF. Quite the kick on that one!
I plan on meeting a large portion of the Texas contingent in the next two weeks, as we travel down there for my sons graduation from Air Force Basic Training.
Should be a great time!

Brian, -- when does he graduate? What squadron and flight number? When I was there no graduation as such, just promotions and shipping orders along with a parade, everyone gets a parade just for the experience, part of training. -- no

Need One,
He graduates on the 27th of this month. His Flight number is 518, and then theres a 320 TRS, and a PSC4. But I have no idea what those last two things mean.
We can see him for a couple hours Wednesday thru Friday, then all day Saturday and Sunday.
I'm trying to see Mt. Goat next Tuesday, around dinner time (we get into San Antonio early Tuesday morning), and maybe Toons-Hubby on Wednsday.
We head up north Monday the 30th. Plan on stopping by Boggy's along the way, if he's not busy. I need to e-mail him right after this.
It's a tight schedule, I hope to meet as many of you as possible though!
That basically leaves Tuesday to meet up with you and Texas-Hunter. Are ya busy Tuesday?
