I have friends that use it on deer every season. I am not a 243 fan so don't have one. I do use the HPBT in other calibers with complete success.Rick.

I do and they work well for me. Shoot them in my older 700 BDL 243 with 38 grains of Varget. They are the most accurate bullet that I have tried in my 243's.

I have used it with good results but actually prefer the 85 grain Sierra Varminter SP. The HP is a bit tough for my tastes.

Based on my experience with them, you can consider them the hammer of Thor. I bought one of the Walmart Remington 700 ADL 24" specials this past Fall for $297. I had loaded up some of the Sierra 85gr HPBTs with 37.0 gr of IMR 4064 in Win brass. They were shooting right at 3/4MOA @ 100 yards.

I then proceeded to use that setup to take 3 does at 280 yards, 350 yards and 410 yards. These were all one shot kills and the deer went no more than 15 yards. One thing that really surprised me was that the 410 yard shot was a pass-through but the shorter shots were not.

I highly recommend these bullets and if your .243 won't shoot them, it won't shoot anything else.

I haven't tried them in my 243 but my 240Wby loves them. Very accurate and the big whitetail doe I took with it last year was DRT at 355yds.

The Sierra 85 gr BTHP is a great deer bullet and one of the best from the 244 Rem with 1&12 twist barrels

I loaded some of there for my Weatherby youth carbine, and I shot a 3-shot 1/4" CTC group. I know these bullets are great on groundhogs, but this might just be an all-around load.

I loaded this bullet over 36.5 grains of Varget yesterday and shot several SUB MOA groups with my 1955 mod 70 fwt with a 2-7x Leupold. Very happy. I hope to thump some coyotes and javelina with this combo.

try 45grs of RL-19, all of my 243's (11 of them) will shoot that load, it's my go to load. Shot a lot of bug hole groups with that load. Killed a lot of deer with that load. Gave my friend 10 of them to try out of his Savage 11 and he called me up and said he shot a 3/8" hole group at 100 yards with them.

I prefer to keep them off the shoulder bones, but in the ribs they are just plain deadly.

I do have some RL19, but a lot more of RL15 or TAC? Anyone use RL15 or TAC?

For those wanting to use them on coyotes, groundhogs, etc., don't expect to save pelts. I shot a fox this past Fall with them and it was a mess.

Yep.

I like soft bullets but these did not perform well at all in water-filled laundry soap bottles... The first was blown up, a few bullet shards found in second bottle. This from a 6-250; less umph than the .243.

That having been said I have friends I trust who swear by em... I reserve em for plastic, steel, and varmints.

I used RL15 and RL17 also. RL15 changes to much with the temp I would use Varget instead since there so close to being alike. RL15 didn't work well in the accuracy dept and velocity like RL19 did. RL17 was not much better. RL19 really shines in the accuracy and velocity dept, loads from all my 243 the velocity if over 3300 fps. And if you don't want to use the Sierra 85gr for everything then switch to the Barnes 80gr TTSX. The Barnes almost shoots to the same point on impact in 5 of my 243 that I tried them out of only having to move my scope 1/4".

I've shot a couple deer with them and they were dead right there. Great accuracy even with the Federal factory load.

I never understood how anyone came to on game conclusions about bullet performance using plastic bottles and water especially with trusted friends telling of great experiences.

A good buddy of mine has shot a ton of deer with them out of a .243 and gets a big smile on his face anytime they are brought up in conversation. Because of his results with the 85gr HPBT, it would almost be considered an insult in our deer camp to shoot any other bullet. It made believers out of skeptics on many occasions. I'd also say if your .243 won't shoot them then your .243 won't shoot.

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!
